BMW M2 Long Term Review, March 2025 Report

This past month, I was added to a WhatsApp Group of over 40 G87 M2 owners from around the country – G87 is the model code for this generation of M2. And this isn’t your everyday group for pretty pictures and dirty jokes, this is a group of M2 owners who go on track days and exchange notes on brake pad compounds and custom tunes – in other words, a community of proper enthusiasts. Of course, the majority of cars out there are autos, but there are some manuals in the group as well, which was another pleasant surprise.

This past month I haven’t put too many miles on the car, but my shrinking fuel mileage suggests that those miles have been at an ever-increasing pace! What can I say, this is a car that encourages you to push it. And now, with almost 3,000 kilometres on the clock, the engine and transmission have opened up nicely and I seem to be getting more adept at flicking through the gears and steering it on the throttle – both hallmarks of very happy motoring indeed.

And, finally, I thought I’d include a picture of the rear for the first time in one of these long-term reports. People complain about the squared off bumpers – front and rear – but I quite like them. They’re unique, they add character and, of course, muscle. In fact, the stance of this car is such that it always looks like it’s waiting to pounce. Not in an elegant feline way, but more in an impatient rottweiler manner.

Combine this aggressive stance with the Brooklyn grey shade – which shines 24x7 thanks to the PPF (Paint Protection Film) – and you’ve got a car that to my eyes, while not classically beautiful, looks very purposeful indeed.
