BMW is gearing up to unveil the latest iteration of its 5 Series sedan in India on July 24, 2024. This iteration marks a significant development for the Indian market, as it will be the first time the 5 Series will be offered in a long-wheelbase version, specifically designed to enhance passenger comfort. Beyond the increased dimensions (5,175 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height), the new 5 Series boasts a comprehensive redesign. This includes a refreshed aesthetic, an upgraded interior, and a suite of innovative features. With the move, BMW aims to offer more choices to customers by introducing the long-wheelbase variant alongside the traditional lineup in the Indian market.

BMW 5 Series: Design
The new BMW 5 Series has a redesigned front. The iconic kidney grille is now larger with fourteen vertical slats, and the front lights are flexible LED lamps. The body has smoother lines than before, with a roofline that flows more smoothly. LED taillights update the back. This long-wheelbase version is bigger than the old one. This results in an extra 212 mm in length, 32 mm in width, and 41 mm in height.
BMW 5 Series: Interior
In the new 5 Series, the interior follows the trend of modern BMW models. A standout feature is the curved widescreen display dominating the dashboard. It includes a large 14.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Taking cues from the luxurious 7 Series, there's an optional Interaction Bar offering touch controls for various functions, enhancing convenience. BMW has upgraded the vehicle with the latest iDrive 8.5 system, featuring a revamped interface and a new "Quick Select" feature for easy access to frequently used functions. Additional comforts include four-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and a premium 18-speaker sound system from Bowers & Wilkins, ensuring a cosy and luxurious atmosphere inside the cabin.

BMW 5 Series: Engine
BMW has not disclosed the engine choices for the Indian market yet. However, it's likely that the new 5 Series will offer a 2.0-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol engine. Both engines are expected to come with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system for improved efficiency. Once on the road, the new 5 Series will face tough competition from established rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB and the Audi A6.
