The C5 Aircross Hybrid marks the beginning of Citroen's electric offensive.
Starting with the C5 Aircross, all new models from Citroen will have an electrified version in the line-up and by 2023, the company aims to have 80 per cent of its line-up electrified. 100 per cent electrification is expected to happen by 2025.
Coming to the car itself, the C5 Aircross Hybrid is powered by a 177bhp 1.6-litre PureTech petrol motor and a 107bhp electric motor placed on the front axle. Together, the hybrid powertrain is rated at 221bhp & 320Nm of torque. The power is sent to the front wheels via a ë-EAT8 electrified automatic gearbox (an upgrade of the standard EAT8 gearbox) that features an energy recovery system. The motor draws its power from a 13.2kWh 200V High-Voltage Li-ion battery pack on which, Citroen is offering an 8-year or 1,60,000km warranty.
The C5 Aircross Hybrid offers three driving modes: Electric, Hybrid (ICE+Electric) & Sport (ICE only). In the purely electric mode, the C5 Aircross Hybrid is capable of offering a driving range of up to 50km that can be achieved on speeds of up to 135km/h (based on WLTP test results). Further, the battery can be fully charged in less than 2 hours using the optional 7.4kW charger & a 32A Wall Box. However, with a standard wall socket (8A) and the standard 3.7kW charger, the time goes up to 7 hours.
To give the C5 Aircross Hybrid unique visual credentials, Citroen has introduced a new Anodised Blue colour pack exclusively for the hybrid that joins the Anodised Silver, White & Red colour packs. The colour inserts can be seen in the Airbumps. Inside, there's a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster & an 8-inch infotainment screen with reworked graphics & visuals tailored specifically to the hybrid version's needs. Other standard equipment comes in the form of acoustic laminated front windows, suspension with Progressive Hydraulic Cushions, advanced comfort seats, etc.
With the order books open, deliveries of the new C5 Aircross Hybrid (in the UK) are expected to begin by the middle of 2020.
