BMW has finally launched the electric version of its entry-level X1 SUV – the iX1 – in the Indian market, priced at Rs 66.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This comes eight months after the Indian arm of the German manufacturer introduced the 2023 BMW X1 in January. The new model will be imported using the quick-to-market import or CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) route and will go toe-to-toe with the Mercedes-Benz EQB, the Volvo C40 Recharge, the Kia EV6, and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 in the electric-SUV segment. Given that it is based on the third-generation BMW X1, the latest iX1 electric vehicle appears identical to its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart, save for its EV-specific styling bits such as the closed-off kidney grille with distinct 'i'. The front end is further characterised by slim headlamps with inverted L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), while the rear end gets sleek LED taillights. On offer is also a new set of sporty-looking 18-inch alloy wheels. Prospective buyers have a choice of four monotone colours – Alpine White non-metallic as well as Space Silver, Black Sapphire & Storm Bay metallic paintworks.
