An agonising mechanical failure for leader Ott Tanak gave Hyundai's Dani Sordo his second career victory at this year's Rally Italia. As it turns out, Tanak suffered severe steering issues in the final stage, sending him into a spin which obliterated his pace completely.

Toyota Gazoo Racing claimed perhaps their most dominant win of the season in the inaugural Copec Rally Chile as title contender Ott Tanak and co-driver Martin Jarveoja led all but the first stage of the rally to take their second victory of the season, after Rally Sweden.

Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia (Citroen Total WRT) in rally Guanajuato Mexico exhibited no signs of slowing down, as the duo sealed their fifth Rally Mexico victory, which was also their seventh consecutive podium finish.

In contrast to the season opener’s nail-biting competition, the second round remained a one-sided affair with Ott Tanak (Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT) claiming a comfortable victory in the short final leg of Rally Sweden, with a margin of 53.7 seconds.

Kicking off the 2019 season in style, defending champion Sebastien Ogier, along with co-driver Julien Ingrassia (Citroen Total WRT), overcame late drama to clinch his sixth consecutive Rallye Monte Carlo victory.
