At Watches and Wonders 2022, Vacheron Constantin not only brought back one of its 70’s classics but also introduced major updates to some of its best complications, resulting in a line-up that’s making headlines around the world. We take a look at the highlights of the new collection.
V acheron Constantin has always been a brand that makes little noise about what it does and goes about its business rather quietly. And that’s partly why many people don’t realise Vacheron Constantin is amongst the most famed watch brands in the world – in fact, it’s the oldest manufacturer to have been continuously in the business of making timepieces. Frankly, I’m slightly biased here – as a Vacheron Constantin fanboy, I track the brand’s developments and new products very closely. So when Vacheron hit it out of the park with four amazing new products at the recently held Watches and Wonder 2022, I was really excited. So, let’s take a look at all the new goodies they brought to the show.
HISTORIQUES 222
In the middle of the 1970s, when watchmakers were producing some amazing designs, Vacheron created the 222 to mark its 222nd anniversary. And now, the brand has come up with a reissue of the same, which is absolutely amazing. Characterised with retro design touches and a small 37mm case, the new 222, with its integrated bracelet and a gold finish, looks absolutely fantastic. With its trademark Maltese cross next to the bezel and a new modern movement, the 222 has to be one of the best watches of 2022.
OVERSEAS TOURBILLON SKELETON
The Overseas Skeleton is one of the holy grails of the watchmaking world, in my opinion. It’s a watch that I would like to own, but its hefty price makes sure that I probably will never be able to afford one. Sigh. Anyway, in the latest version, Vacheron has taken the Overseas to yet another level, with the integration of the Tourbillon in the Skeleton case. As a result, you get a stunning looking design, one that gives you a detailed look at the intricate functioning of a mechanical watch. You also get a choice of exotic materials in which the watch can be bought, namely pink gold and titanium. The titanium variant, particularly, highlights the grey base plate and the movement against the shiny metal and will most likely be a collector’s favourite.
VACHERON CONSTANTIN TRADITIONNELLE
An update to Vacheron’s Traditionnelle line-up, this latest variant now offers the much-in-fashion salmon dial, along with a platinum case, which nicely complements the black and silver dial variants already available in the collection. With its 43mm dial, the Traditionnelle is a gorgeous looking watch with a perpetual calendar and chronograph. In short, it’s a beautifully laid out and timeless design.
With this new collection, Vacheron Constantin has once again demonstrated why it is regarded as one of the top three in the world of watchmaking and why collectors and enthusiasts love the brand so much.
