IWC ‘Laureus Sport for Good’ Portugieser
Laureus and IWC have had a long-standing relationship under which they’ve produced many limited-edition time pieces of note. The latest piece features the trademark Laureus blue dial, which is offset sharply by hands plated in rhodium. The movement powering this watch is the hand-wound 59360 which has an impressive 8 days of power reserve. On the dial there two sub-dial with the one at 6’o clock showing the small seconds, while the one at 12 shows the time elapsed. There is also a power reserve indicator as well as a date window. Sized at a pretty large 46mm, this edition of the Portugieser will have a limited production run of 500 pieces, the proceeds of which will be used towards training children and adults with mental disabilities in Olympic sport disciplines.
KITH x G-Shock GM6900
Giving a pop of 90’s fashion, the G-Shock range of watches has had spectacular success the world over. And the GM6900 is of particular importance as 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the 1995 launch of the original. Produced in a limited quantity, the GM6900 in association with legendary sneaker store KITH is finished in a Rose Gold finish. Its iconic design carries over the four-screen design of the original, and this is also the first metal version of the 6900.
Grand Seiko SBGJ235 – Hi-Beat 36000 GMT
One of the few Grand Seiko Boutique exclusive pieces, this GMT is powered by the manufacturer’s high-precision 36,000 vph movement. This piece measures a nice 40mm, which makes it easy to wear for most people, but the most interesting aspect of the time piece is the blue dial, which is finished in what the manufacturer call Mount Iwate pattern. The dark blue colour of the dial is also nicely offset by the gleaming finishes on the hands of the piece.
IWC Portugieser Chronograph
If there is a time piece that has defined IWC to a lot of watch enthusiasts, the Portugieser, would probably be it. In fact, it’s been so popular since its launch in the 90’s that this range of chronographs has seen minimal changes to its design. One look at the piece and you can understand why. It’s just a stunning piece which is neither too complicated, nor too barren and has just the right amount of details in it. Now, in its latest form, the Portugieser is finally powered by IWC’s in-house 69000 series of movements, which also makes them a lot more affordable. Well, it looks great, is more affordable and is an absolutely stunning piece of design, I don’t think we can ask for much more.
