autoX Awards 2023: The Karizma nameplate evokes fond memories for anyone who grew up in the 90s. No wonder then that Hero Motocorp decided to launch the all-new Karizma XMR to continue its legacy. Do I even need to mention the kind of stir it created on the internet upon its arrival? Now, while the older model prioritised performance over style – not that it wasn’t stylish – the new iteration seems to fall a little short in comparison. It has a stunning design and offers the latest features, but the Karizma XMR seems to be a tad too hesitant to match the performance prowess of the older model.
The first thing that impressed me about the Hero Karizma XMR is how well it has been designed to give you a balanced riding position. Before testing the bike at the ICAT circuit, I had the opportunity to use the bike for commuting purposes. During that time, it became quite clear to me that the Karizma XMR was designed to be a user-friendly sporty machine. The clip-on handlebars are well-suited for both spirited riding and comfort, while the narrow tank and strategically positioned footpegs offer optimal setup for all riding purposes.

Powered by a 211cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine, which produces 25bhp and 20.4Nm of peak torque and is mated to a 6-speed transmission, the Karizma is the most powerful motorcycle you can buy in its class. In terms of performance, it exhibits swift acceleration off the line and a rather rapid climb through the rev range. The transmission is also slick, allowing you to upshift and downshift rather quickly. The only issue with the Karizma’s performance is the abrupt drop-off of the power curve after a rapid build-up. Consequently, it becomes crucial to be in the right gear at the right time to extract the most out of it. The Karizma XMR is an agile handler too and a great learning tool for new riders.
