Suzuki E Burgman

The new electric Burgman scooter from Suzuki was recently showcased at the 2023 edition of the Japan Mobility Show. The firm has been using the Gachaco battery system for testing, which is why the side panels beneath the pillion seat have the e-Burgman Gachaco stickering on them. The product is decked up in a striking dual-tone colour combination of blue and white. The brand has been testing the e-Burgman on Indian roads for quite some time, and the same paint job has frequently been seen here as well. Following the success of the tests conducted in Tokyo at the beginning of this fiscal year, the bikemaker proceeded with additional assessments in Osaka for the e-Burgman, which is now equipped with Gachaco swappable battery technology. It is a partnership formed by Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, and Kawasaki, the four main Japanese auto giants.

Suzuki e-Burgman Electric Scooter: Design Cues and Other Details

Suzuki intends to utilise the data it has gained on the electric scooter's everyday use in a variety of situations to expand its line of future zero-emission models. The Suzuki e-Burgman sports the same design as its ICE counterpart. The scooter's zero-emission nature is indicated by the blue accent that contrasts with the white paint in certain areas. Moreover, the model has no exhaust pipe considering it is an EV. The front portion of the e-Burgman consists of a stylish apron featuring an LED headlamp and built-in boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. Key design highlights of the battery-powered Burgman include a flat floorboard, single-piece seat and grab rail, black finished five-spoke alloy wheels, LED tail lamp with clear lens turn indicators, twin-sided rear shock absorbers, and telescopic front forks. The Suzuki badge is visible beneath the tall transparent windscreen, surrounded by vertical silver slats.

Suzuki e-Burgman Electric Scooter: Dimensions

The e-scooter measures 1,825mm in length, 765mm in width, and 1,140mm in height. The vehicle's kerb weight stands at 147 kilograms and has a 780mm seat height. Furthermore, Suzuki and Gachaco are going to install battery-swapping facilities all around Japan.

Suzuki e-Burgman Electric Scooter: Mechanical Details

Coming to the mechanical aspect, the official information on the manufacturer's website states that the e-Burgman is powered by an AC synchronous electric motor boasting a maximum torque of 18Nm and a peak power output of 5.36bhp (4 kW). Though the battery capacity of the scooter has not yet been officially revealed by the maker, we do know that the removable lithium-ion battery pack provides a range of 44-kilometre at 60km/h.

Suzuki e-Burgman Electric Scooter: Anticipated Launch and Market Competition

We have seen the e-Burgman being tested on Indian roads, and the ICE-powered Suzuki Burgman Street is already available for purchase here. Thus, following its official international launch, it is anticipated that the Suzuki e-Burgman will make its way to India next year. As of now, the firm sells the Burgman Street and the Burgman Street EX scooters in the country.

Hero, Bajaj, and TVS are among the players in the Indian market's commuter segment that Suzuki will take on with its electrified Burgman scooter. It will therefore compete with the Vida V1 Pro, which currently costs Rs 1.34 lakh, the Chetak, which is priced at Rs 1.27 lakh, and the iQube, which carries a price tag of Rs 1.24 lakh. All mentioned figures are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Hydrogen-powered Burgman Scooter

Alongside the e-burgman, a hydrogen-powered test model of the same has also been displayed at the ongoing mobility show. The 70Mpa hydrogen tank that will propell the new Burgman is expected to be installed underneath the floorboard. Using a combustion setup rather than a fuel cell, it will be directly connected to the engine. The current Burgman 400 ABS from Suzuki is set to be powered by a hydrogen engine. Notably, Suzuki has just showcased the test scooter thus far; an official release date for the production model is probably still some way off.
