Skoda Octavia Rs IV Revealed

For the first time, the Skoda Octavia RS will feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Although this new-generation model continues to make 241bhp, torque rating has improved to 400Nm

While Skoda launched the Octavia RS 245 in India last month at the Auto Expo, internationally, they have just taken the wraps off the next-generation model. Christened as the Octavia RS iV, this is the first time the model will feature a plug-in hybrid powerplant. Providing firepower to the Octavia RS iV is a 1.4-litre turbo petrol motor that works in union with an 85kW electric motor to produce an overall output of 241bhp. Torque rating now stands at 400Nm – 30Nm more than the Octavia RS 245. Interestingly, despite producing identical power and marginally more torque, the Octavia RS iV does the 0-100km/h dash in 7.3 seconds – that’s seven-tenths of a second slower than the outgoing model. Top speed too is down to 225km/h from the previous 250km/h.

As far as design goes, the Octavia RS iV has been derived Skoda’s Vision RS concept that was first unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in 2018. The sports sedan looks sharper and more aggressive than before. The grille continues to be washed in black and is now flanked by sleeker and wider headlights than before. The tail section of the new Octavia RS is a lot edgier too. It now features the Skoda lettering in place of the brand insignia. The angular taillights are identical to the standard version of the new Octavia.

Aligned with its sporty nature, the interior of the Octavia RS iV gets a leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel and full-black upholstery with certain elements draped in Alcantara. The Octavia RS iV gets two 10.0-inch screens for the Virtual Cockpit and the infotainment.

Given the response the current generation Octavia RS has received in India, Skoda is likely to bring in the next-generation model as well. While the timeline of the RS iV launch in India remains undefined as of now, Skoda has confirmed that the standard Octavia will make its way to India towards the end of 2020.
