The utility (UV) and sports utility vehicle (SUV) manufacturer Mahindra has long dominated the market. To maintain its position, Mahindra has faced stiff competition from rivals like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, and Tata Motors in the UV market. Mahindra has rolled out a number of new SUVs, including the new Thar, the XUV700, and the Scorpio-N, to make up lost ground in the segment. But the brand won't stop there; over the next three years, Mahindra plans to introduce a slew of new SUVs in India in order to further solidify its position in the SUV market. Let's take a look at some of the Mahindra vehicles coming to India in the near future.

All-new XUV500

With significant updates and options for 5- and 7-seats, Mahindra recently introduced the XUV700 to replace the XUV500 SUV. However, the automaker has revealed that the XUV500 nameplate will return featuring substantial revisions, including a considerably smaller size than its forerunner. In direct competition with rivals like the Hyundai Creta, the Kia Seltos, the MG Astor, the Volkswagen Taigun, and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, the new XUV500 is anticipated to measure around 4.3 metres in length. A modified version of the XUV300 platform, which has been adjusted to accommodate the 4.2-metre-long XUV400 electric vehicle, will serve as the foundation for the redesigned Mahindra XUV500. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol and diesel engines will likely be offered for the SUV. Furthermore, the company could also introduce an electric XUV500.

Thar 5-Door

The Mahindra Thar 5-door or long-wheelbase model is the upcoming Mahindra vehicle on the list. It will have a wheelbase that is 300mm longer than its 3-door model when it is released, which is anticipated to happen by the end of 2023 or early 2024. A better wheelbase-to-track ratio will result from the new version's ladder-frame chassis, which is based on the Scorpio-N. This will widen the space between the wheelbases. The SUV will have a second door for the middle row, have a layout inside that is similar to the current model, and have a middle row with a three-seat bench and a larger boot. The new Thar might share its powertrains with the Scorpio-N, offering 200bhp, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 172bhp, 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engines, with both manual and automatic transmission options.

Next-gen Bolero

In 2024, Mahindra intends to introduce the new Bolero to the Indian market, according to reports. The popularity of the SUV in rural and semi-urban areas is well known. It is anticipated that it will ride on the same new ladder-frame chassis that supports the Scorpio-N and the Thar. The new model will probably keep the same exterior, but it will have several new body panels and design components. The SUV's interior is believed to undergo major improvements with higher levels of fit, finish, and material quality. Additionally, it might be fitted with contemporary features like an infotainment touchscreen, a multifunctional steering wheel, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and automatic air conditioning. A 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine are expected to drive the next-generation Bolero, with both manual and automatic gearbox options.

XUV E9

By April 2025, the Mahindra XUV.e9, an upcoming electric SUV, is expected to debut in our market. The vehicle will have coupe-like proportions and measurements of 4,790mm in length, 1,905mm in width, 1,690mm in height, and 2,775mm in wheelbase. The 2018 Auto Expo's XUV Aero concept served as the design inspiration for the XUV.e9, which features LED lighting fixtures, a closed-off front grille, headlamps mounted on the bumper, a flat tail section, and a coupe-like appearance at the back. The battery pack and electric motors used in the SUV will also be used in the XUV.e8.

XUV E8

Mahindra has made it official that the XUV.e8, which will go on sale in India by December 2024, will be their first electric vehicle to go into production. The upcoming EV, which is rumoured to be called the XUV800, is built on Mahindra's Born Electric INGLO platform. With three rows of seats, it will resemble the XUV700 in terms of its design and silhouette. The XUV800 will be about 45mm longer, 10mm wider, and 5mm taller than the XUV700, with a raised wheelbase of 7mm. It has a wheelbase of 2,762mm and measures 4,740mm long, 1,900mm wide, and 1,760mm tall. The 80kWh battery pack and all-wheel drive configuration of the electric SUV will allow for a power output range of 230bhp to 350bhp.
