Land Rover Defender 130 unveiled
The Land Rover Defender 130 is the longest Defender yet, with seating for eight while retaining the ability to do some serious off-roading. The Defender 130 should make its India debut soon.

The new Defender has become quite an icon in Land Rover’s lineup and while we initially saw it in two body styles – 90 and 110 – we now have a third one. The Defender 130 is much longer than the 110, in order to accommodate three seats in the last row. Yes, thanks to a 2+3+3 seating configuration, the Defender 130 can seat eight!
In terms of dimensions, at 5,358mm the Defender 130 is 775mm longer than the Defender 110, though it is identical in terms of width and just a little bit taller. The extra length should allow for generous knee-room even in the third row. That said, with the third row folded you get 1,232-litres of boot space or a whopping 2,291-litres with the second and third rows folded.
The Defender 130 looks pretty much identical to the 110, except for the longer rear overhang. Off-road cred should be fairly good thanks to an approach, departure and breakover angle of 37.5 degrees, 28.5 degrees and 27.8 degrees respectively. In comparison, the Defender 110 has a departure angle of 40 degrees with the air suspension in off-road mode, though the 130 has identical approach and breakover angles.
In terms of powertrains, the Defender 130 will be available with a choice of petrol and diesel six-cylinder Ingenium engines. All-wheel-drive is standard, as is an eight-speed ZF automatic and Terrain Response. Currently, there’s no mention of a V8 but we could see one added to the lineup in the near future.
We expect the Defender 130 to make its India debut fairly soon, perhaps priced near the Rs 1 crore mark. At that price, the Defender 130 will be one of the only offerings to offer serious off-road ability with a mix of luxury.
