Ford Capri Front and Side View

The Ford Capri was the American Mustang's British market equivalent in the late 1960s. The Cortina-based sports car's striking design made it one of the most recognisable vehicles on the road. After years, the Capri moniker is now back in the global market, albeit limited to an electric crossover with five doors. The car is intended for the European market, just like the Ford Explorer electric. It will be produced at the brand's plant in Cologne, Germany. The Capri will take on the Tesla Model Y and Polestar 4, similar to the Mustang Mach-E. The current exchange rates place the expected price of the standard Capri model at USD 61,731 (about Rs 51.55 lakh), and the premium trim raises the price to USD 66,995 (roughly Rs 55.95 lakh) overall.

New All-electric Ford Capri: Design

Ford Capri Rear and Side View

The sloping rear quarter window and similarly arcing C-pillar were the distinguishing features of the original Ford Capri's design. To mimic these, the new Capri EV traces it loosely over the extra pair of doors and hard points of the Volkswagen MEB platform, veering closer to the profile of the more coupe-like Volkswagen ID.5 sibling. The new Capri appears fairly tall with its bluff hindquarters and significant freeboard. There are many minor similarities, such as the identical tail shape and the bottom edge of the rear quarter window that has been kicked up. Similarities can be seen in the dark lower trim and blacked-out A-pillars as well.

New All-electric Ford Capri: Battery Pack, Range and Charging Time

When Capri goes on sale in the UK, two variants will be available, and both will be referred to as "Extended Range." Based on Europe's WLTP test, the base model, a 278bhp single-motor rear-wheel drive vehicle, is said to have a 627 km range. Equipped with a 77kWh battery pack, the car takes 28 minutes to attain a 10% to 80% charge.

With a second electric motor, the Premium model gains all-wheel drive and produces 330bhp. The battery's usable capacity rises to 79kWh, and its maximum charging power increases to 185 kW (up from 135 kW), resulting in a 10% to 80% charging time of 26 minutes. With the larger battery pack, the additional motor increases the Premium model's maximum range to 592 km. The less powerful model will take 6.4 seconds to get from 0-100 km, while the Premium will do it in 5.3 seconds.

New All-electric Ford Capri: Interior Elements

Not surprisingly, the interior of the Capri is heavily influenced by that of the electric Explorer. A 14.6-inch sliding infotainment screen that you can angle-adjust is present on the redesigned Capri. The steering wheel's bottom spoke, which mimics the style of vintage sports steering wheels with drilled metal spokes, is a delightful throwback element.

Ford Capri Interior

The standard features of the Capri include wireless phone charging, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated, 12-way massage seats, heated and folding door mirrors that project an image of a Capri onto the ground, and dual-zone climate control. Meanwhile, the additional features for the premium model come in the form of a 10-speaker B&O sound system with a subwoofer and ambient lighting. It also boasts a driver-assist package, comprising assisted lane change, a head-up display, a 360-degree camera, and active park assist.
