Formula E: Jaguar TCS' Mitch Evans Tops Valencia Pre-season Test

Mitch Evans of Jaguar TCS Racing was the fastest driver in the second session of the 2023/24 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship pre-season test in Valencia. At the very end of the session, the New Zealander set the pace with a blistering 1 minute, 24.791 seconds.

After the third day of Formula E pre-season testing was resumed after being interrupted by a garage fire earlier in the week, Mitch Evans took the lead. At the end of the four-and-a-half-hour session, the Jaguar driver finished first with a timing of 1 minute, 24.791 seconds, barely 0.023 seconds faster than Porsche's Antonio Felix da Costa. It's interesting to note that these two drivers were both at the top of the standings on Tuesday morning before the garage fire.

WAE, formerly known as Williams Advanced Engineering, is a battery provider that experienced a fire that forced them to temporarily shut down operations at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Spain. Tests resumed on Thursday at 2 p.m. local time after the FIA conducted an inquiry and found a satisfactory solution.

With a time of 1 minute, 25.661 seconds, Edoardo Mortara set the early pace, although Mahindra fielded only one vehicle owing to damage sustained in a fire on Tuesday. Unfortunately, this setback also meant that Nyck de Vries couldn't take part because his Mahindra Gen3 vehicle was damaged. During Tuesday morning's practice, De Vries had his maiden drive in Mahindra's Gen3 vehicle and finished last among the runners.

Pascal Wehrlein of Porsche came in fifth. However, the session was cut short as he stopped on the track in the waning seconds, bringing out the red flag and ending the session early. Tenth place went to Maximilian Guenther of Maserati MSG, followed by Oliver Rowland of Nissan, Norman Nato of Andretti Global, Jehan Daruvala of Maserati MSG, and Nick Cassidy of Jaguar.

Jake Dennis, the current champion, came in 12th, only 0.04 seconds behind the leader. Since he had to make way for favoured rookie Zane Maloney on Tuesday morning, this practice was his first time behind the wheel of the car. Due to the limited number of races, most teams stuck with their normal drivers; Porsche was the lone exception, running a rookie in Gabriela Jilkova before handing off to da Costa.

Both Dan Ticktum and Sergio Sette Camara, drivers for ERT, finished last in their respective sessions, with Sette Camara completing only eight laps owing to a battery problem. In contrast, Sebastien Buemi of Envision logged the most laps (75) and finished in 17th place, 0.5 seconds behind the leader.

vans improved the previous session's best in the first sector in the final 12 minutes but slowed down for the remaining portions of the lap. His Tuesday record of 1 minute, 24.791 seconds stood, despite being three-tenths of a second slower than his current best. Running on Friday is expected to take place between 8:30 am and 6:30 pm, which is only a half hour behind schedule from before the garage fire.
