<p><a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/">Hyundai Motor India</a> has pulled the plug on one of its two electric offerings in our market&nbsp;– the Kona EV, nearly 5 years after the company launched the model. Initially introduced in 2019 at Rs 25.30 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the Kona EV was the country's first fully-electric SUV from Hyundai. It received a&nbsp;39.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack powering the front axle-mounted electric motor (131bhp/395Nm). The EV had&nbsp;a stated 57-minute charge time from 0 to 80 per cent using a 50kW DC charger, and offered&nbsp;an ARAI-certified range of 452km on a single charge.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Though the Kona Electric&nbsp;had impressive specifications for an electric vehicle, it&nbsp;unfortunately didn't&nbsp;see much success in terms of sales thanks to its outdated crossover design and interior. In about&nbsp;five years, Hyundai could sell only&nbsp;2,329 units of the Kona EV in India. The Kona EV&nbsp;was assembled in India via CKD (completely knocked down)&nbsp;kits.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Hyundai Creta EV: Successor to Kona EV?</h2>

<p>Hyundai India hasn't revealed the reason behind this move.&nbsp;However, it could be done to replace the Kona EV with the upcoming Creta EV. Plus, no rumours are floating around that claim&nbsp;that Hyundai will bring&nbsp;the next-generation Kona Electric to the domestic market, even though the model&nbsp;has already transitioned to a second generation elsewhere.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Spotted on multiple occasions, the Creta EV will be launched in India in January 2025.&nbsp;The Creta EV is Hyundai India's&nbsp;first mass-market EV, which will be manufactured at the company's Chennai plant. It will enter production in the country&nbsp;by the end of this year and, since it&nbsp;shares many bits (design elements, platform) with the internal combustion engine-powered Creta, we expect Hyundai to&nbsp;build its upcoming EV&nbsp;alongside the standard Creta to keep costs in check.</p>

<p>However, the Creta EV will likely borrow some interior bits from the&nbsp;Kona EV&nbsp;sold globally.&nbsp;Therefore, one can expect a&nbsp;twin-screen setup, new&nbsp;steering wheel,&nbsp;reworked centre console,&nbsp;panoramic sunroof and&nbsp;360-degree surround camera. As for the the battery and motor specs,&nbsp;the Creta EV&nbsp;will likely run on a 45kWh&nbsp;battery pack sending power to a front-mounted electric motor. The motor is expected to churn out 136bhp and&nbsp;255Nm of&nbsp;torque. Also,&nbsp;the EV&nbsp;could come with fast-charging capabilities.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Price-wise, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/creta-ev/">Hyundai Creta EV</a> could range between Rs 15 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom). Once launched, it will compete with the MG ZS EV, the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/mahindra/xuv400/">Mahindra XUV400</a>, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX and Tata Curvv EV.</p>


Hyundai Kona Electric SUV Discontinued in India? Model Delisted from Website

Initially introduced in 2019 at Rs 25.30 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the Kona EV was the country's first fully-electric SUV from Hyundai.

<p>Korean carmakers Hyundai and Kia have partnered with India-based Exide Energy Solutions to localise electric vehicle&nbsp;battery production, with a focus on lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) cells.&nbsp;The three parties have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Hyundai Motor Group's Namyang Research and Development Center in South Korea to foster EV growth.&nbsp;Hyundai currently offers the Kona Electric and Ioniq 5, while Kia sells the EV6 in India. All of these vehicles feature nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries. The new partnership will allow the South Korean twins to employ lithium-ferrophosphate (LFP) batteries manufactured in India in their future electric cars.</p>

<p>Heui Won Yang, President and Head of <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-cars/hyundai/">Hyundai</a> Motor and Kia’s R&amp;D Division, shared his thoughts on the partnership and said, 'India is a key market for vehicle electrification due in part to the government’s carbon neutrality goals, which makes securing cost competitiveness through localized battery production crucial.'</p>

<p>He further added,&nbsp;'Through this global partnership with Exide Energy Solutions Ltd., we will gain a competitive advantage by equipping Hyundai Motor and Kia’s future EV models in the Indian market with locally produced batteries.'</p>

<p>Demand for LFP batteries has increased significantly over the years in terms of backup power, vehicles, and utility-scale stationary applications.&nbsp;These batteries have several advantages over their counterparts, including low cost, high safety, minimal toxicity, and longer cycle life.&nbsp;As of September 2022, the market share of LFP-type batteries for EVs stood at 31%, with Chinese EV manufacturers <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/industry-news/byd-crosses-70-lakh-electric-vehicle-production-milestone-globally-116598/">BYD</a> and <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/teslas-long-awaited-roadster-to-arrive-in-2025-claims-sub-1-second-0-97kmh-time-116326/">Tesla</a> making up 68% of the total.&nbsp;Since there is an increasing need for more affordable EV batteries, LFP batteries are expected to overtake lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxides (NMC) batteries in the upcoming years.</p>

<h2>New Kia Carens EV To Enter India Next Year</h2>

<h2>Maruti Suzuki eVX</h2>

It has previously been seen testing on Indian roads multiple times. It is expected to be produced at Suzuki's Gujarat plant and will have a 60kWh battery and dual motors capable of covering 550 kilometres. There are plans for a Toyota version as well.</p>

<p>On the design front, the muscular and stylish appearance of the eVX Concept is reminiscent of the new-generation Brezza, with a robust stance, an upright front, and a distinctive clamshell bonnet design. Its V-shaped cutouts hold the headlamps and daytime running lights, and its lower bumper grille has the iconic 'S' badge. The SUV's striking blacked-out aero wheels with low-profile tyres, flush-fit door handles, and strong character lines all contribute to its distinctive look. The back tailgate's high-positioned LED tail lamp strip adds a contemporary touch to the overall look.</p>

<h2>Tata Curvv EV</h2>

<p>The Tata Curvv EV will be positioned in between the Nexon and the Harrier electric versions. The Indian automaker's first SUV coupe has already been <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/car-news/tata-curvv-ev-spied-testing-in-india-once-again-shows-angular-led-taillights-and-more-115351/">seen testing on our roads several times</a>. Before launching the ICE variant, the model will be available for purchase as an EV. While information about the electric drivetrain is scarce, we do know that it will be based on the carmaker's Gen2 platform. Furthermore, the EV is predicted to have a range of 400 to 500 kilometres.</p>

<p>A 12.3-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, automated air conditioning, and ventilated front seats are a few comfort features that may come standard with the vehicle. It is anticipated to have six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors to protect passengers. Additionally, the automaker may choose to add advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to the Curvv, like automated emergency braking and adaptive cruise control (AEB).</p>

<h2>Tata Harrier EV</h2>

<p>Tata Motors launched the Harrier facelift in India not too long ago. Following this, the maker unveiled a concept version of the electric SUV at the recently held Bharat Mobility Show and intends to introduce it sometime in 2024, similar to other models in its lineup. The electric version shares many exterior design cues with the ICE Harrier SUV but has certain EV-specific features to set it apart. The front end receives a redesigned bumper with additional creases, a blanked-off grille, and the same split headlamp arrangement with a new pair of DRLs. It has unique alloy wheels, flush door handles, and ".EV" badging on the fenders when observed from the profile. The rear end sports a new LED light bar, connected LED tail lamps, and a revised bumper.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Mechanically, the electrified model will include a dual-motor all-wheel drive system. Regarding battery size, the SUV is expected to have a 60kWh pack that will provide a range of 400 to 500 kilometres. On top of that, the Tata car will include convenient features and technologies like vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V).</p>

<h2>Hyundai Kona Electric</h2>

<p>The second-generation Kona Electric, which made its international debut last year, is more feature-rich, larger, and has an upscale appearance. Hyundai has also adopted a new design language for the Kona Electric. Styling-wise, full-width lightbar components are present on both the front and back, although the headlights and taillights are housed in separate pods that are positioned low on the corresponding bumpers. Its split LED headlamps and distinct character lines align it with the latest Hyundai electric SUVs, such as the Ioniq 5. Based on the WLTP cycle, the base model's 48.4kWh battery pack allows for a range of 377 kilometres. The power and torque figures for this battery pack stand at 153bhp and 250Nm, respectively.</p>

<h2>Mahindra XUV.e8&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Mahindra's only electric offering available for purchase in the nation is the XUV400. The XUV.e8, the firm's first XUV.e model, is slated for release in late 2024 and is anticipated to retail for between Rs 21 lakh and Rs 30 lakh (ex-showroom). It has been stated that the XUV.e8 is the EV equivalent of the company's flagship SUV, the XUV700. The vehicle will be built on the brand's new INGLO EV skateboard platform, but it shares some design cues with the XUV700, such as its silhouette and three-row seating arrangement.&nbsp;</p>

In terms of accessibility, the Kona Electric N Line is expected to enter production in February and begin selling in the spring. The product's availability in other markets is currently unknown. <h2>Hyundai Kona Electric N Line: Exterior and Interior&nbsp;</h2>

<p>The Kona Electric N Line's exterior design elements comprise distinctive side skirts, bold front and rear bumpers, a pair of special 19-inch wheels, and N Line badging that enhances the vehicle's more aggressive impression. Going&nbsp;inside, you'll notice sporty details like the seats with&nbsp;N Line branding and red contrast stitching. Further, you'll see the dashboard and steering wheel featuring crimson accents that add to the sporty design. Metal pedals, a black headliner, and a dedicated N-Line steering wheel are some of the other standout design characteristics.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Customers who choose the N Line S variant, which has higher specifications, will be able to take advantage of the exquisite blend of leather and Eco Alcantara upholstery. Interestingly, 57% of the material used to create this exclusive Alcantara is recycled polyester. In addition, the N Line S model has projector&nbsp;LED headlights, daytime running lights that span the width of the vehicle beneath the bonnet, heated and ventilated seats, and a high-end Bose audio system with a subwoofer.</p>

<h2>Hyundai Kona Electric N Line: Mechanical Details</h2>

<p>The car hasn't changed mechanically. It still runs on&nbsp;a 65kWh battery and&nbsp;a single 212bhp electric motor that drives the front wheels. With this configuration, the electrified&nbsp;car can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 7.8 seconds.</p>

<h2>Hyundai Kona Electric N Line: Prices and Availability</h2>

<p>In February, the new Kona Electric N Line is expected to go into production. The N Line S variant costs £43,095 while the Kona Electric N Line base model is priced at £40,395.</p>

<h2>Hyundai Ioniq 6</h2>

<p>Hyundai is also planning to launch the eagerly awaited Ioniq 6 in India.&nbsp;A 53kWh unit and a 77kWh unit are the two battery packs that are offered for the Ioniq 6 globally. While the top-spec AWD variant has two motors with a combined output of 325bhp and 605Nm of peak torque, the entry-level variants have an RWD layout with a single motor that produces 228bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. The model's WLTP-certified range varies depending on the variant opted for, from 429-kilometre&nbsp;to 610-kilometre. Its feature list includes wireless phone charging, vehicle-2-load (V2L) functionality, two 12.3-inch displays, a heads-up display, and an eight-speaker Bose sound system. Together with a 360-degree camera and an extensive array of ADAS capabilities, it has seven airbags for safety. The Ioniq 6 will probably retail for an ex-showroom cost of Rs 65&nbsp;lakh.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Creta Facelift</h2>

<p>On January 16, the 2024 version of the Creta will arrive in India. There will probably be a few aesthetic changes made to the medium-sized SUV from the previous model.
