Honda has increased the price by Rs 559 of both the models across all variants

Subsequent to the official unveiling at the Auto Expo 2018, <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/honda/">Honda</a> had launched the 2018 CB Hornet 160R and <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/honda/cbr-250r/">CBR250R</a> in March. The CB Hornet 160R was priced starting Rs 84,675 for the base variant, going right up to Rs 92,675 for the top-spec trim with ABS. The Hornet is now priced at Rs 85,234 for the standard variant, while the fully loaded version costs Rs 93,234. The CBR250R, on the other hand, was launched at Rs 1,63,584 and Rs 1,93,107 for the for the non-ABS and ABS versions respectively. The quarter-litre offering now demands Rs 1,64,143 lakh and Rs 1,93,666 respectively. All prices ex-showroom Delhi.

Averaging at over 7,000 units a month, Honda has been able to sell the CB Hornet 160R in reasonable numbers. The CBR250R, on the other hand, hasn’t been driving sales as well as Honda would like. In April, the company could only sell 559 units of the motorcycle.&nbsp;Both these motorcycles had received a mild cosmetic update at the Auto Expo 2018. The refreshed CB Hornet comes fitted with a new LED headlight, a blue backlit instrumentation and hazard lights. This refresh also brought the premium commuter with new decals. The biggest talking point though was the introduction of ABS.&nbsp;

Apart from the BSIV compliant motor, the CBR250R didn’t get as many changes. The only other addition in features was the new LED headlamp. Just like the Hornet, this one too was launched with new, brighter colour schemes.

Honda CB Hornet 160R and CBR250R prices hiked

Honda has increased the price by Rs 559 of both the models across all variants. Subsequent to the official unveiling at the Auto Expo 2018, Honda had launched the 2018 CB Hornet 160R and CBR250R in March.

Honda is now offering ABS and LED headlamp with the CB Hornet 160R. 

After showcasing the 2018 CB Hornet 160R at the Auto Expo in February, Honda has now put the mildly refreshed version of the streetfighter on sale in India. Now while it gets a couple of new features, the main highlight is that it now comes with optional ABS. The prices of the new CB Hornet 160R start from Rs. 84,675 for the standard variant and go all the way up to Rs. 92,675 for the ABS DLX variant (all prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The design of the updated CB Hornet 160R is mostly unchanged, barring a few new stickers here and there. There’s, however, an all-new LED headlamp that replaces the halogen setup of the old model. Plus, the instrument cluster is all new with blue backlit as opposed to amber in the previous version. The new instrument cluster, however, doesn’t have a gear position indicator. The updated version now also gets hazard lights.

The engine is unchanged from earlier, meaning it’s a familiar air-cooled, 163cc single-cylinder engine that develops 14.9bhp and 14.5Nm of torque. The engine still doesn't get fuel-injection and continues to employ a carburettor. Transmission duties are carried out by a five-speed transmission. As for the brakes, the front wheel is fitted with a 276mm disc brake as standard, while at the rear it’ll have either a 130mm drum or 220mm disc, depending on the variant you choose. ABS is optional, but it’s a single-channel system – only acting on the front-wheel.

The addition of ABS and features like LED headlamp will definitely give the CB Hornet 160R slight advantage against its competitors such as the Yamaha FZ-S FI, Suzuki Gixxer, <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/bajaj-pulsar-ns160-review-first-ride/">Bajaj Pulsar NS160</a> and the recently launched <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/tvs-apache-rtr-160-4v-review-first-ride-103391/">TVS Apache RTR 160 4v</a>. Out of its listed rivals, only the Gixxer comes with ABS, but that’s only offered on the full-faired SF version and not on the naked version.

New Honda CB Hornet 160R ABS launched

To cash in on the festive season, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has introduced special edition variants of the CB Hornet 160R. This new variant comes with Striking Green and Mars Orange colour options. Introduced in the standard as well as the CBS versions, the CB Hornet Special Edition has been priced at Rs 81,413 and Rs 85,912 respectively. The CB Hornet 160R on the other hand is priced at Rs 80,431 and Rs 84,931 respectively. Prices ex-showroom Delhi. Deliveries of this special edition trim is expected to commence next week.

In terms of design, the Special Edition <a href="https://www.autox.com/news/bike-news/new-honda-cb-hornet-160r-abs-launched/">CB Hornet 160R</a> is not different from the standard trim except for the new colour scheme, graphics and a rim stripe on the alloy wheels. At the heart of it, the CB Hornet 160R SE will continue to be powered by a 162.71cc single-cylinder engine that makes 15.44bhp and 14.76Nm. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The CB Hornet 160R is one of the first motorcycles to adhere to the BS-IV norms even before they come into force in April next year.

The <a href="https://www.autox.com/reviews/bike-reviews/honda-cb-hornet-160r-review-first-ride/">CB Hornet 160R</a> is also available in five other colours - Neo Orange Metallic, Pearl Amazing White, Sports Red, Pearl Siren Blue&nbsp;&amp;&nbsp;Pearl Night Star Black.

When <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/honda/">Honda</a> decided to revive the CB Unicorn badge in its 160cc avatar, many potential buyers were slightly disappointed as the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/">motorcycle</a> looked a bit boring and was targeted at commuters This safe approach from Honda lacked the excitement, that the younger riders are nowadays looking for in the 150-180cc segment and also the competition has a lot more contemporary looking bikes, in terms of design, and stand out in the crowd. Honda being Honda, they took the feedback positively and worked on a more vibrant 160cc motorcycle and here we have with us. the CB Hornet 160R.

This new naked muscular bike was first showcased at the Honda Rev Fest in August where the CBR 650F was launched and even at that time we were impressed by its chiselled looks. The scooped-up tank did remind us of the Yamaha FZ-S, which is a good thing as it looks brawny or in Honda’s words ‘ripped. The tank gets a smart mock carbon fibre finish, but personally, a simple black matt finish would have been a better option. The side profile is beautifully crafted and has a lean athletic feel. Coming to the rear, the Hornet gets a snazzy X-shaped LED tail lamp. The all-digital metre displacement is quite basic and could have been better. The 160R has a short sporty muffler and comes with a 140mm rear tyre, wider than the Unicorn, along with 5-spoke alloy wheels. While the Hornet comes standard with 276mm front disc and 130mm rear drum brakes, one can also opt for the 220mm rear disc.

The <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/honda/hornet-20/">Hornet</a> uses the same 162.7cc air-cooled engine as the Unicorn’s but has an additional 1bhp, and therefore its total output is 15.7bhp. The Hornet’s torque too is slightly more than its sibling with 14.76 Nm at 6,500rpm. What is most impressive about this new Honda is that it meets BS-IV emission norms well ahead of the April 2017 regulation deadline. It is actually India’s first motorcycle to comply with BS-IV norms.

As we only got to ride the Hornet for a limited time, our first impression was quite promising. The initial acceleration felt slightly punchier than the Unicorn, but the powerplant didn’t feel as refined. At slow speed, it has enough pull and you aren’t forced to keep changing gears, making it a good city dweller. The riding stance made you lean a bit more forward as compared to the <a href="https://www.autox.com/new-bikes/honda/unicorn/">Unicorn</a>, but still comfortable seating. The variant we rode had a 220mm rear disc with a Combi Brake System, which flexed ample stopping power.

The Hornet like the Unicorn also uses a rear monoshock and provides a comfortable ride. It manages to cushion most potholes on the road and doesn’t crash into them. The suspension set-up is slightly on the softer side, which makes it easier to negotiate bad roads and ditches.

The Hornet is available in two variants, while the standard model costs Rs 79,900, ex-showroom, Delhi, the top of line version with rear disc brakes will set you back Rs 84,400. Yes, it is more costly than the Unicorn, which starts from Rs 72,412, ex-showroom, Delhi, but then the rugged looks of the Hornet will definitely set you apart from the other commuter bikes in this segment.
