Ducati's street hooligan returns with more power and more tech in the shape of the new Hypermotard 950.

The latest version of Ducati’s revered hooligan, the Hypermotard, is finally available in India. The new model has got a new name – Hypermotard 950 as opposed to the outgoing Hypermotard 939 – and comes with a raft of improvements such as a more powerful powertrain with lighter internals, along with more tech and more features. The Hypermotard 950 is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Ducati Hypermotard 950 gets the same 937cc Testastretta 11° twin as the Hypermotard 939, but it comes with a number of revisions. The pistons are lighter, which results in a higher compression ratio of 13.2:1 vs 12.6:1 earlier. Similarly, the exhaust cam profile has been modified and there’s a new twin under-seat exhaust setup. Combined, these changes result in a power hike of 4bhp – the total power output now stands at 113bhp. There’s a gain of just 1Nm of torque (96Nm), but Ducati claims that over 80 per cent of that is available from 3,000rpm in the new model.

There’ve been some weight savings as well because the Hypermotard 950 is 3kg lighter than the previous model. According to Ducati, this can be credited to the bike’s new steel trellis frame, lightweight Marzocchi forks with aluminium fork tubes and new wheels. In terms of design, the Hypermotard 950 doesn’t look all that different from the old model, but it does get a couple of styling enhancements, such as a new headlamp assembly with daytime running LEDs and a full-colour TFT-display.

Electronics suite includes Bosch six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit, Bosch Cornering ABS with the Slide by Brake function, Ducati Traction Control EVO (DTC EVO) and Ducati Wheelie Control (DWC) EVO. Ducati Quick Shift (DQS) is optional. For now, Ducati won't be offering the better equipped SP version in India, but the company says that they will bring it in if there's enough demand.
