BMW G310 RR Stand View

In 2013, two different motorcycle manufacturers from two different regions of the world – BMW Motorrad and TVS – came together to build technically advanced motorcycles at competitive pricing. It has been 10 years since their collaboration, and their products, which are based on the 310cc platform, have registered sales of over 1.4 lakh units across the globe. These include the BMW G 310 R, G 310 RR, G 310 GS, and the TVS Apache RR 310 – the Chennai-based manufacturer's flagship motorcycle. Under this alliance, the products are 100 per cent engineered by BMW, and TVS is held responsible for delivering world-class quality while keeping the production cost less. The BMW-TVS motorcycles have a presence across 100+ markets, including the EU, USA, Latin America, India, Japan, and China.

In a bid to provide sustainable and robust mobility solutions, BMW and TVS expanded the scope of their collaboration in December 2021, with a focus on creating new platforms and cutting-edge technologies, including EVs. Following this, TVS's scope of responsibilities includes the design and development of forthcoming BMW products while using its mass production skills.

Focusing on future technologies, BMW Motorrad recently unveiled the CE 02 for the global market. Designed and developed by TVS Motor Company, the e-bike is available in Base and Highline variants, with prices starting at $7,599 (approximately Rs 6.2 lakh) in the US.

BMW CE 02: Specifications

The BMW CE 02 is available in two performance variations: the 11kW and the 4kW. The 11kW requires a bike permit, whereas the 4kW version doesn't. The standard version has a maximum power output of 15bhp, whereas the low-speed 4kW CE 02 model produces around 5bhp. The latter has a top speed of 45km/h, while the former claims a top speed of 95km/h.

BMW CE 02: Features

On the feature front, the bike gets a higher handlebar, a squared-off LED headlamp with integrated indicators and DRLs, an LED taillamp, a single-piece seat, 14-inch alloy wheels, a 3.5-inch TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity, and split-type grab rails. In terms of safety, the bike has disc brakes on both wheels, single-channel BMW Motorrad ABS, automatic stability control (ASC), recuperative stability control (RSC), regenerative braking, and other features.

New TVS Bike to Launch on September 6

In related news, the Indian motorcycle manufacturer recently sent out invites for the launch of its upcoming motorcycle in the country on September 6, 2023. While there is quite a bit of uncertainty around its name, we suspect that the new motorcycle could be the Apache RTR 310, which is a naked version of the fully-faired Apache RR 310. Or could be the recently trademarked Apache RTX.

Probably, the same 312.2cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine on the fully-faired model will power the RTR 310. This liquid-cooled engine is capable of churning out 33.5bhp at 9,700rpm and 27.3Nm of peak torque at 7,700rpm. Expect the bike to be priced lower than its fully-faired counterpart, which retails at approximately Rs 2.72 lakh (ex-showroom). Upon launch, the RTR 310 will be TVS' answer to the likes of the Honda CB300R, BMW G 310 R, Bajaj Dominar 400, QJ Motor SRK 400, as well as the KTM 390 Duke.
