Speculation is growing stronger linking Aleix Espargaró to Honda as a MotoGP test rider for 2025 after his retirement announcement, though his future intentions remain undisclosed.

After over 13 years in the premier class, Aleix Espargaro has elected to conclude his MotoGP career at the end of the 2024 season. He made this decision public at his home race in Barcelona, marking a significant moment in his racing journey.

During Saturday's practice at the Qatar MotoGP, a tangle on the track between Aleix Espargaro and Franco Morbidelli quickly got out of hand. After a close call, Espargaro gave the Italian a smack on the head and then rode off.

After yet another Turn 1 pile-up at the MotoGP Bharat GP sprint, leading MotoGP riders, including Aprilia's Aleix Espargaro, called for "strong penalties" to be imposed. After similar crashes at the start of the Catalan GP and Austrian GP sprint, this is the third pile-up in four races into Turn 1.

Two big crashes on the first lap, including one involving championship leader Pecco Bagnaia, overshadowed Aleix Espargaro's victory in the Catalan Grand Prix, where Aprilia finished 1-2. Bagnaia led from the pole, but he high-sided off his Ducati out of Turn 2, landing in the centre of the circuit.

On the penultimate lap of the MotoGP British GP, the Aprilia rider threw his RS-GP up the inside of Ducati's Bagnaia into Maggotts and held off the rest of the tour to win his second career grand prix.
