The Aegea communicates not only an image of stability, but also of elegance. The front is sharp, with headlights extending to the grille under a sculpted bonnet.

The Aegea, Fiat’s latest machine, shows a new direction from Fiat Chrysler. It’s a striking machine that could be slated to replace the Linea in the Indian market.

Unveiled at the Istanbul Motor Show recently, the Fiat Aegea has been designed in Italy, but will be built in one of Fiat Chrysler’s Turkish plants. Named after Turkey’s western seaboard, the Aegea is aimed at 40 countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. It could come to India as a replacement for the Linea.

At first glance, the Aegea has a hint of Fiat’s traditional family – but with a sculpted, muscular and stylish profile. In Europe, it’ll be available in three different body styles – saloon, hatchback and wagon. The saloon is expected to go on sale in select markets by the end of this year, while the other body-types will come later.

The Aegea is believed to have been developed on the 500L B-Wide platform (but this hasn’t been confirmed by Fiat Chrysler), which has been widened and lengthened. The wheelbase has been stretched to 2,640mm. The total length is 4.5 meters, while the height is 1,480mm – which is 10mm less than the Punto.

Fiat hasn’t yet announced which engines will power the Aegea, but it’s likely to use the familiar MultiJet diesels of 1.3 and 1.6-litre capacity. On the inside, a five-inch touch-screen will be standard to control the infotainment system.
