The latest from the Ferrari stable – the 488 Spider is guaranteed to put speed freaks on an unforgettable high. With its explosive pace and great handling, the 488 is presently unrivalled when it comes to high-performance supercars.
The Ferrari 488 Spider promises to turn the thrill of driving a supercar up by several notches. With a folding hardtop that takes just 14 seconds to deploy or stow away, the 488 provides a visceral thrill unlike any other machine currently on the market.
The twin-turbo, mid-mounted 3.9 litre V8 engine makes it more efficient as well as more powerful. The 488’s explosive engine belts out 660bhp – almost a hundred more than its predecessor. And, in order to give to the V8 that typical character from a Ferrari engine, its engineers came up with a pretty interesting strategy – a different torque peak in each gear.
But the 488 comes with the same problem as the 458 – speed limits! The driver always has to keep a constant eye on the speed limits fixed by the Highway Code. Speed thrills, of course, and as soon as you floor the accelerator an all-pervasive joy envelops you. Plus, the 488 is extremely forgiving at that limit. But with a top speed of over 325km/h, the 488 can’t be defined an easy car to drive. It still requires skill and patience to master this machine!
