This issue is bursting with it – pure passion that is! It’s an unabashed celebration of turning seven, a celebration of motoring – a labour of love. After all, it’s this love – for what we do, and for the machines that get under our skin – that has kept us going strong for all these years.

So, this issue is firmly ensconced in the automotive Fantasy Land that we’re fortunate to sometimes lose ourselves in. You’ll see familiar names, such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Jaguar, Alfa, Datsun, BMW, Mercedes, Mini, Range Rover, Jeep, and many more, showcased within the pages of this issue – and that’s not because we don’t care about the more regular stuff, it’s simply because these icons heighten the passion just that little bit more. So, not only is it apt for a celebration, but it’s also what drives us – what connects us.

What of the future though – what does it hold for the motoring culture that is so integral to our lives? After all, we can’t ignore the natural calamities and freak weather patterns that are growing more frequent across the globe. We do owe it to our children to ensure that they inherit a planet that’s not falling apart. And lip service isn’t enough – we truly have to look at the entire mobility eco-system afresh. What’s comforting, though, is the fact that the industry appears to be doing just that – whether it’s exploring car sharing in an urban environment, or new battery technology for the next generation of EV’s.

What’s even better is the fact that some of these new-age machines appear to be very desirable indeed – you need just look in the direction of Tesla for proof of this. And what about machines like the Porsche 918 and BMW i8, which are as fast as ever (if not faster), and also far more efficient than ever imagined for cars that can actually set your pulse racing. I recently drove the Nissan Leaf RC, and all my fears regarding the future of motoring melted away. Other than the eerie silence, it was a genuinely exciting car. All I can say is that it would be foolish to underestimate the resourcefulness and passion of the brilliant men and women who work behind the scenes to make these vehicles a reality – the solutions they’ll suggest will surprise us. But we have to be willing to accept change – it is, after all, the only constant!
