In 2022, the Volvo XC40 Recharge made its debut in India, with an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 55.90 lakh. This electric SUV, which now retails for Rs 56.90 lakh (ex-showroom), is offered by the automaker in a single, fully loaded trim. The Swedish luxury carmaker is offering discounts of up to Rs 2.35 lakh on the SUV as of February 2024. However, this offer is valid for MY23 cars. In addition, there's also a Rs 52,000 discount on the MY24 units. For Rs 1 lakh, you can reserve the vehicle at any authorised dealership or on the brand's official website.
Volvo XC40 Recharge: Battery Specs and Range
The XC40 Recharge is offered in India in a single variant which has two electric motors—one on each axle—producing 408bhp and 660Nm of peak torque and is claimed to have a range of 418-kilometre on the WLTP cycle. This makes it nearly twice as powerful as the XC40 with a petrol mill. With all that power, the XC40 Recharge can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds; however, the EV weighs 400 kg more than the petrol-powered equivalent.
Volvo XC40 Recharge: Charging Time
With a 78kWh battery that can handle 150kW DC rapid charging, the Volvo XC40 Recharge can achieve 10 per cent to 80 per cent charging in just 28 minutes. The car manufacturer further claims that the electrified XC40 can reach 100 per cent charge in roughly 2.5 hours using a more convenient 50kW fast charger.
Volvo XC40 Recharge: Exterior Design
The XC40 Recharge arrived in India largely as a facelifted model, with a few minor cosmetic adjustments like a redesigned bumper and a new "Thor's Hammer" DRL. The car is 15mm longer than the gasoline-powered XC40, but because of the battery pack, it has a marginally lower ground clearance of 175mm. Moreover, it comes equipped with a new set of dual-tone 19-inch alloy wheels, a blacked-out grille, and a 452-litre boot with an extra 31-litre boot under the engine.
Volvo C40 Recharge: Features
Speaking of features, the XC40 Recharge's infotainment and telematics systems were carried over from the facelifted XC60, which has an infotainment system based on Android and a crisper set of digital dials. With the aid of an onboard e-SIM, the driver has direct access to Google Assistant and Maps, as well as other PlayStore apps. On top of that, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charging, connected car technology, a comprehensive suite of sensor-based ADAS features including Level 2 Autonomous driving, powered front seats with driver-side memory, and a high-end Harman Kardon sound system are all included with the SUV.
Volvo XC40 Recharge: Rivals
Coming to the market rivals, the XC40 Recharge takes on the likes of the Hyundai Ioniq 5, the BMW i4, and the Kia EV6 in our country.
In the Indian market, Volvo India also offers the XC90 SUV and the S90 sedan variants. Nonetheless, the company's present focus is on positioning itself as a high-end electric vehicle manufacturer in the home market with the goal of having an entirely electrified portfolio by 2030.
