Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has announced that starting January 1, 2024, all of its models will be subject to a price increase of up to 2 per cent to offset the negative effects of rising input and material costs. While the brand commits to absorbing a significant portion of the rising costs, it acknowledges the necessity of passing on a portion of the cost to customers. This impending price change will affect every model in Volkswagen India's extensive inventory, including popular options like the Virtus and Taigun.
Several prominent automakers have already announced plans to increase vehicle prices in January, which include Maruti Suzuki, BMW, Hyundai Motor India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Motors, and Audi.
How much has the price increased?
The amount of the price increase will depend on the model and version. The Virtus sedan starts at Rs 11.48 lakh and goes up from there, while the Taigun compact SUV starts at Rs 11.62 lakh, completing VW India's current lineup. At Rs 36.16 lakh, the Volkswagen Tiguan is the most expensive model in the brand's line-up. All prices are ex-showroom.

Volkswagen updated the Virtus and Taigun earlier this year, with new colour options and versions for both. The manufacturer also debuted the Sound Edition for both the sedan and SUV, with unique visual elements and other features. As of now, Volkswagen has been quiet about its plans for the Indian market, but in 2024, the ID.5 electric SUV will make its debut as the company's new flagship.
The Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus Topline trims are mechanically identical to their base versions, with the choice of either a manual or automatic gearbox, and are powered by a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine, which produces a maximum power output of 114bhp.
Volkswagen December Discount
Volkswagen India is offering attractive incentives on the Virtus sedan and Taigun midsize SUV before raising prices across the board in the first quarter of 2024. The goal is to get rid of the old inventory by offering an array of tempting deals, including cash discounts, loyalty benefits, and exchange bonuses, amounting to a total of Rs 4.20 lakh. So, if you're in the market for a new vehicle, now is the time to get one before the year ends, because these exclusive deals will only be available for a limited time.

Price Hike from Other Automakers
Volkswagen's price hike follows a general trend of increasing prices before the new year. Even Audi, which is owned by Volkswagen Group, has announced that it will increase prices for its cars beginning in January. Audi India plans to implement a 2% price hike nationwide, citing the effects of rising input and operational costs.
