The Taigun and the Virtus, from Volkswagen Group, have undergone a price hike of up to Rs 25,000. While the company has not revealed the exact reason behind this price revision, rising input costs, perhaps, is the most likely reason. The Taigun is offered in Comfortline, Highline, Topline, GT, GT Plus, GT Edge, and GT Plus Edge trim options. The Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus 1.5 TSI DSG, the petrol variant in the Taigun lineup, has now become more expensive than before by Rs 25,000 and is offered at Rs 19.06 lakh, whereas the GT 1.5 TSI with DSG transmission costs Rs 16.99 lakh, which is an increase of Rs 19,900. All prices are ex-showroom. Additionally, the Indian arm of the German manufacturer has also raised the prices of the GT 1.5 TSI MT and the Highline 1.0 TSI MT variants by Rs 4,000, while the Highline 1.0 TSI with automatic transmission has now become dearer by Rs 9,000. Meanwhile, the prices of the Virtus have increased by up to Rs 4,000. The Highline and GT variants can be had at an additional cost of Rs 4,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively, while prices of other variants have remained the same. Speaking of prices, the mid-size sedan starts at Rs 11.48 lakh and goes all the way to Rs 18.89 lakh (ex-showroom).
Volkswagen Taigun, Virtus: New Features
About a couple of days ago, Volkswagen added new features to the select variants of the Taigun and the Virtus. With this update, the Topline and GT Plus variants of the Taigun and the Virtus now get electric front seats and illuminated footwells. A subwoofer and an amplifier are also offered but are reserved for the MT and DSG trims of the Taigun and the Virtus.

The Volkswagen Taigun and the Virtus are built on the India-specific MQB-AO-IN platform, which means that both get the same engine options – a 113bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and a 148bhp 1.5-litre TSI engine. Transmission duties are carried out by either a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed torque converter AT, or a 7-speed DSG, depending on the engine.

Prices of the Virtus start at Rs 11.48 lakh in India. It competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia, and Honda City. The Taigun, on the other hand, takes on the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and other midsize SUVs. Its prices range from Rs 11.62 lakh for the Comfortline 1.0L TSI MT to Rs 19.76 lakh for the newly launched GT Plus Edge DSG Carbon Grey Matte. All prices are ex-showroom.
