The Urban Cruiser Hyryder from Toyota was launched in India in 2022 at a price ranging between Rs 10.73 lakh and 19.74 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom. This five-seat SUV has since become one of the best-selling models for the brand in the country, which is very much evident from its significantly long waiting period. The strong-hybrid version of the Toyota Hyryder presently has a waiting period of up to 78 weeks. Meanwhile, the mild-hybrid versions of the car have a waiting period of up to 35 weeks, starting from the day the model is reserved. The Hyryder SUV is available in four trim levels – E, S, G, and V. Further, customers can choose from four dual-tone and seven monotone colour options – Cafe White, Enticing Silver, Gaming Grey, Sportin Red, Midnight Black, Cave Black, Speedy Blue, Sportin Red with Midnight Black, Enticing Silver with Midnight Black, Speedy Blue with Midnight Black, and Cafe White with Midnight Black.

Toyota Hyryder: Design
The sleek double-layer Daytime Running lights integrated into the Crystal Acrylic grille make the popular Toyota SUV stand out in terms of appearance. The vehicle has a typical SUV shape from the side, and noticeable Hybrid logos adorn the doors. Slim C-shaped taillights with twin C-shaped LED components can be found at the back and extend into the tailgate. As mentioned before, the SUV can be had in seven single-tone and four dual-tone exterior colour schemes.
Toyota Hyryder: Powertrain Options
The Toyota SUV’s 1.5-litre TNGA Atkinson Cycle engine produces 92bhp of maximum power and 122Nm of peak torque and is mated to an eCVT transmission. An electric motor that delivers 79bhp and 141Nm of torque is coupled to the engine to churn out a total power output of 114bhp. The automaker states that the robust hybrid drivetrain has a fuel efficiency of 27.97km/l. For battery, the system uses a 117.6V lithium-ion unit.
Maruti Suzuki also provides a mild hybrid engine for the Hyryder. It is equipped with the 1.5-litre K15C engine, which is also used in the Brezza and Ertiga. The motor, known as Neo Drive, generates 103bhp and 137Nm of torque and is coupled to either a six-speed torque converter automatic gearbox or a five-speed manual gearbox.
Toyota Hyryder: Interior and Safety Features
Inside, the dashboard of the Toyota Hyryder is identical to that of the Baleno and the Glanza. The cabin has a black and brown colour scheme, which not only looks good but is also more functional than beige. However, this brown and black combination is only available with the powerful hybrid variant. The interior of the mild hybrid versions is completely black. Toyota's compact SUV comes with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, ventilated front seats, smartphone and smartwatch connectivity, ambient lighting, and paddle shifters as standard. Moreover, it also gets a heads-up display, wireless phone charging, and a panoramic sunroof.
On the safety front, it comes with up to six airbags, ABS with EBD, a 360-degree camera, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), vehicle stability control, and all-wheel disc brakes.
Toyota Hyryder: Competitors
In the Indian market, the Hyryder goes head-to-head with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Volkswagen Taigun, and Citroen C3 Aircross.
