A range of prominent car manufacturers such as Hyundai Motor India Limited, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra had one model apiece in the list of top ten best-selling cars in April, but Maruti Suzuki India, the nation's largest automaker, recorded the best possible start to FY25 with seven models in the sales chart. As far as the top 5 list is concerned, Maruti Suzuki claimed three spots, while Tata Motors and Hyundai took one spot each. In April 2024, the Tata Punch SUV continued its successful run, clinching the top spot for the second month in a row. Here's a detailed look at the top 5 best-selling models in April.

Tata Punch

Tata Motors popular SUV is presently topping the sales rankings. It is in the lead with a total of 19,158 units sold in April this year. The Punch has been the best-selling SUV in India for the past three months running, and it has also had the greatest monthly sales of any SUV since its launch. In comparison to April last year, the model saw a 75 per cent increase in sales last month. Furthermore, the model's sales figure for March 2024 stood at 17,547 units, a 67 per cent increase over the same month the previous year.

Maruti Suzuki WagonR

Though the SUV segment continued to record far better sales numbers compared to hatchbacks, there is no doubt that several of these models are still very popular in India. The tallboy hatchback WagonR was the best-selling model for Maruti Suzuki last month. The carmaker sold 17,850 WagonR units in April. Despite an impressive second-place finish in the list, WagonR's sales have decreased by approximately 15 per cent compared to the same month last year.

Tata Nexon sales fell drastically in the sub-compact SUV sector, allowing its well-liked rival, the Maruti Suzuki Brezza to claim the top spot. The Brezza became the country's third best-selling car in April, with 17,113 units sold, representing a 45 per cent increase in sales. In March, Maruti Suzuki sold 14,614 units of the SUV. In terms of market competition, the Brezza takes on the likes of the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and the Mahindra XUV 3XO. Recently, Maruti Suzuki updated all the Brezza CNG variants with features like Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) and Hill Hold Assist as standard. 

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The Dzire is the only sedan in this list, despite the introduction of more sophisticated and feature-rich variants. Maruti Suzuki sold 15,825 units of the sub-compact model last month, representing more than a 55 per cent surge in sales figures as compared to April previous year. Interestingly, the brand is gearing up to release the updated Dzire later this year, which will incorporate several significant improvements carried over from the upcoming next-generation Swift hatchback.

Hyundai Creta

Hyundai Creta

The Hyundai Creta, which has ruled the compact SUV market for a long time now, comes in at number five on the list. The recent sales figures indicate that the 2024 Creta has attracted a great deal of interest. A total of 15,447 units of the SUV, which competes with the Kia Seltos and the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, were sold by the automaker last month. The cumulative sales of the Creta increased by about 9 per cent in comparison to the same month the previous year.
