Top 5 Best-selling Car Brands in India in March: Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors and More

Maruti Suzuki remained the top-selling car brand in March 2025 despite a slight year-on-year decrease. It was followed by Hyundai and Tata Motors, which sold 51,820 units and 51,616 units, respectively. Maruti Suzuki’s dominance was underscored by the Wagon R, which became the best-selling model for FY25, outpacing the Tata Punch, which had surpassed the Wagon R's sales figures in the 2024 calendar year. Maruti Suzuki closed the financial year on a high note, reaching its best-ever sales of 22.34 lakh units, up from 21.35 lakh units in FY24. This growth further strengthens Maruti Suzuki's strong foothold in the Indian market.

The Brezza manufacturer reported sales of 1.51 lakh units in March 2025, a decrease of 1,975 units compared to the 1.53 lakh units sold in the same month last year, reflecting a YoY decline of 1.29%.

In addition, Maruti Suzuki has announced a price hike of up to Rs 62,000 across seven models in its lineup, set to take effect on April 8, 2025.
Hyundai

Despite a 2.23% year-on-year decline, Hyundai secured its position as the second best-selling carmaker last month. It sold 51,820 units compared to 53,001 units in March 2024. The Hyundai Creta was the brand’s top-seller in the previous month. The starting price for the Creta ICE is Rs 11.11 lakh, while the EV variant begins at Rs 17.99 lakh (both, ex-showroom).
Tata Motors

With 51,616 units sold last month, Tata Motors recorded the third-highest sales volume among car brands in India, showing a 3.02% growth from the 50,105 units sold in March 2024. In a global move, Tata.ev expanded its reach beyond the SAARC region by entering Mauritius in collaboration with Allied Motors, the top auto distributor in the country. The initial lineup for the Mauritian market includes the Tiago EV, Punch EV, and Nexon EV.
Mahindra

Mahindra experienced a notable 18.25% increase year-on-year in March 2025, selling 48,048 vehicles compared to 40,631 units in March 2024. It launched the XUV700 Ebony Edition in India, available exclusively for the top-end AX7 and AX7 L seven-seater variants. The ex-showroom prices for the AX7 range from Rs 19.64 lakh to Rs 21.79 lakh, while the AX7 L is priced between Rs 23.34 lakh and Rs 24.14 lakh.
Toyota

The Innova Hycross manufacturer continued to perform strongly in the market, with sales reaching 28,372 units in March 2025, a 12.95% increase from the 25,119 units sold in March 2024.

Toyota has also recently increased the price of the Rumion, a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, by Rs 10,000 across all its variants (S, G, and V). The revised ex-showroom prices now range from Rs 10.54 lakh to Rs 13.83 lakh.
