Thar, XUV700, Scorpio and More Assist Mahindra Record 16% YoY Sales Growth in December

Mahindra & Mahindra, a leading name in the Indian automotive sector, achieved an impressive 16% year-on-year (YoY) growth in vehicle sales for December, driven by strong performances from its flagship models such as the Thar, XUV700, and Scorpio. Despite challenges in the global automotive landscape, the brand's robust portfolio of SUVs and its consistent focus on innovation and customer satisfaction have bolstered its market presence. The Thar continues to captivate off-road enthusiasts, while the XUV700 and Scorpio have redefined performance and versatility in their segments. This surge in sales underscores Mahindra's ability to align with evolving consumer preferences, strengthening its position as a dominant player in the competitive Indian automobile market.

Mahindra Sales Figures: December 2024

The homegrown carmaker delivered impressive growth across its automotive and farm equipment divisions in December. Total automotive sales surged to 69,768 units, achieving a 16% YoY increase. Domestic sales in the utility vehicle (UV) category reached 41,424 units, an 18% rise from the previous year, while overall sales, including exports, stood at 42,958 units. The commercial vehicle (CV) segment contributed 19,502 units to domestic sales, further bolstering the company’s performance. Export volumes also experienced a significant uptick, with 3,092 vehicles shipped internationally – an outstanding 70% growth compared to the year before.

Mahindra XUV700 Front Three Quarter

Commenting on the sales performance, Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra said, 'The year ended on a high, as we became the only Indian auto company to attain the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) world leader status within the Auto Sector. The DJSI ranking is one of the most respected global benchmarks for ESG performance, covering over 13,000 companies across various industries and we are ranked 1st among all global auto OEMs.'

The Farm Equipment Sector demonstrated remarkable progress, recording a 22% year-on-year increase in domestic tractor sales, which climbed to 22,019 units last month. This surge was largely attributed to favourable agricultural conditions, including improved reservoir levels and strong momentum in the rabi sowing season. Adding export figures, the overall tractor sales for the month amounted to 22,943 units, marking a robust 20% growth compared to the previous year.

Hemant Sikka, President of, Farm Equipment Sector remarked, 'Sentiments have remained positive in December on account of positive cash flow momentum from Kharif harvest. Favourable reservoir levels have also resulted in strong sowing for the rabi season, further bolstering tractor demand. Looking ahead, the tractor industry is poised for significant growth, underpinned by positive agricultural sentiments and favourable terms of trade for farmers.'

Mahindra is poised to redefine its automotive lineup in 2025 with an impressive range of upcoming models, including the XUV700 EV, XUV 4XO/XEV 4e, and BE 07.

These models highlight Mahindra’s strategic push into the EV segment, catering to eco-conscious buyers while setting new benchmarks for performance, style, and functionality in the Indian automotive market.
