Mahindra & Mahindra's total auto sales stood at 64,335 units in January 2023. The firm sold 32,915 vehicles in the Utility Vehicles segment regardless of supply chain interruptions for Crash Sensors and Air Bag ECUs caused by the limited availability of semiconductors. In the Passenger Vehicles segment, Mahindra reported selling 33,040 vehicles in India. Last month, it exported 3,009 units. Further, it sold 21,724 units in the commercial vehicle market in the previous month. Mahindra has announced an increase of 66% in Utility Vehicles and an overall growth of 37%. According to the firm, customers have responded positively to the Mahindra Thar RWD and the XUV400. The price of the Thar 2WD ranges between Rs 9.99 Lakh and Rs 13.49 Lakh whereas the XUV400 has an introductory price of Rs 15.99 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
According to Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Division, M&M Ltd., “The successful launches of Thar RWD and our first all-electric SUV, XUV400, have received very encouraging response from our customers in the first month of 2023. Our Utility Vehicles saw a growth of 66% and we saw an overall growth of 37%. We continue to keep a close watch on the dynamic supply chain situation”.

Earlier while sharing his thoughts on the launch of the Thar RWD, Nakra stated "The Mahindra Thar is not just a capable SUV, it is an emotion. Since 2020, the all-new Thar has captured the imagination of SUV lovers with over 80,000 fans exploring the impossible every day." Meanwhile, he also stated "The launch of the XUV400 is the momentous occasion in Mahindra’s electric SUV journey.''

Recently, the carmaker opened bookings for the XUV400 in India on January 26. The SUV has clocked over 10,000 bookings so far. Deliveries will begin in March 2023 for the XUV400 EL model & during the Diwali holiday season for the XUV400 EC version. The company has claimed that test drives are underway for customers at local dealerships. The all-electric will witness a phase-wise launch in the country. In terms of powertrain, the SUV offers two options - 34.5kWh and 39.4kWh.

After these recent car launches, Mahindra has plans to launch the five-door Mahindra Thar in India. The car reportedly has been spied testing several times on Indian roads, which indicates its arrival in our market soon.
