Tesla’s EV crossover has been recalled to fix an issue with its rear seat.
Tesla has issued a voluntary recall of its Model X crossover units manufactured between August and October 2016.
A total of 11,000 affected units are speculated to have a problem with their rear seat. According to the California based EV maker, the left back seat of these vehicles may not be able to lock properly in the upright position because of cables that were tightened more than required. That could result in the unlocked seat moving forward in the event of an emergency stop or a crash, posing a safety hazard.
Tesla, in a statement to CNBC said, "During recent internal testing, Tesla determined that a small number of cables in the second row fold-flat seats in some 2016 and 2017 Model X vehicles may need to be adjusted. Although Tesla has not received reports of any issues or accidents relating to this condition, we will be conducting a voluntary recall to inspect the affected vehicles and confirm whether any adjustment is needed".
The EV maker is is now in process of contacting Model X customers through email. The company is recommending owners to visit the nearest Tesla service centre to get the affected cables fixed. It is also suggesting owners to refrain from using the SUV’s second row, until the issue has been resolved.
