Once again, an Indian name has found its way into the top five finalists for the 2022 World Car Person of the Year award!

Last year, Tata Motors' former design chief Pratap Bose made headlines for making it to the top five finalists for the 2021 World Car Person of the Year award. And this time, it's Shailesh Chandra's (President – Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors) turn to represent Tata Motors for this prestigious, globally-renowned accolade. This makes it Tata's second consecutive nomination.

Within a relatively short period, Chandra managed a remarkable turnaround for the brand during a highly challenging year. His electrification strategy is significant on an international scale, and his products have been acclaimed for their advances in design and technology. Chandra has also been the driving force behind the launch of some of the most commercially successful EVs from Tata Motors, such as the Nexon EV and the 2021 Tigor EV.

Alongside Chandra, the top five finalists include Luc Donckerwolke (Executive Vice President for Design and Chief Creative Officer – Hyundai Motor Group), the team of James Gay-Rees & Paul Martin (Creators and Executive Producers of Netflix's Formula 1: Drive to Survive series), Tadge Juechter (Corvette's Executive Chief Engineer), and Linda Zhang (Chief Engineer – Ford F-150 Lightning EV).

To be eligible for World Car Person of the Year, a candidate must have made a significant contribution to the global automotive industry (with global repercussions) between 1st January and 31st December 2021 (not restricted to one market or region). The contribution could include a significant impact on their brand or company or safety, engineering, design, or technical advancement.
