Last year, the revised Tata Nexon SUV launched in India with a starting sticker price of Rs 8.10 lakh (ex-showroom). However, the automaker has now removed the introductory pricing and raised the ICE variant's price by up to Rs 20,000. Following the most recent price increase, the base Smart petrol five-speed manual variant now costs Rs 5,000 more, whereas the remaining models are expensive by Rs 10,000. It's interesting to note that the SUV's dual-tone models now carry an extra Rs 20,000 in cost. There are two engine options and eleven variants for the Tata SUV. For those who don't know, Tata Motors recently claimed that the Nexon, their best-selling SUV, reached a production milestone of six lakh units in India. The SUV debuted as a concept car at the 2014 Auto Expo and went on sale in September 2017 as a production model.
Tata Nexon: Engine
Mechanically, the facelift hasn’t seen any major change in terms of the powertrain. The SUV's core engine options are the 1.5-litre diesel with 113bhp and 260Nm and a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 118bhp and 170Nm. The smallest improvement is the presence of extra gearbox options for the turbo-petrol motor, namely a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed DCT. In contrast, the diesel-powered SUV comes with two different gearbox options to choose from: a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed AMT.
Tata Nexon: Design and Features
With the makeover, the sub-compact Tata SUV has received some notable cosmetic improvements. New sequential LED DRLs, altered bumpers, bi-functional LED headlamps, and aerodynamically designed new 16-inch alloy wheels, are a few to mention. Features-wise, the SUV gets a new 10.25-inch floating infotainment system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, a two-spoke steering wheel, air conditioning, height-adjustable and ventilated front seats, as well as a new digital instrument cluster.
Tata Nexon i-CNG Concept India Debut
Tata Motors participated in the maiden Bharat Mobility Global Expo, which was held from February 1–3, 2024, in Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Among all the vehicles on show at the event, the Tata Nexon i-CNG concept was at the centre of attention. The Nexon SUV gains versatility and a wide range of powertrain options in India with the addition of the CNG powerplant.
Although the exact date of the Nexon i-CNG's India launch is unknown, the vehicle is said to come with a 1.2-litre turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a factory-installed twin-cylinder CNG kit. It is still unknown how much power and torque the CNG variant offers.
