With the start of a new month, sales reports from numerous automakers are taking the market by storm. Tata Motors, like its competitors, has released its September 2023 sales data, announcing that it sold 2,43,024 units (domestic + international) in Q2 FY 2023-24, compared to 2,43,387 units in Q2 FY 2022-23. The carmaker had a 5% drop in passenger vehicle sales in the previous month, with 45,317 vehicles sold (including electric models). Domestically, the domestic carmaker sold 44,809 passenger vehicles in the previous month, a 6% decrease from 47,654 units in September 2022. Exports, on the other hand, increased 142% year-on-year to 502 PVs from 210 units in the same month last year. Let's take a closer look at the other sales figures for September.

Tata Motors September 2023 Sales
Despite a dip in total PV sales in September 2023, electric vehicles (individually) did better. The company's overall EV (IB and Domestic) sales were 6,050 units in the last month, up from 3,864 vehicles sold in the same period last year, representing a 57% YoY increase. The manufacturer reported selling 18,615 EVs in Q2 FY24, up from 12,041 units in Q2 FY23, exhibiting a 55% growth.
Tata Motors reported an overall passenger vehicle sales of 1,38,939 units in Q2 FY24, which included electrified models. However, this resulted in a 3% decrease from the second quarter of FY23, when 1,42,851 vehicles were sold. Even on the domestic front, the automaker had a 2.7% reduction in sales, with 1,37,950 vehicles delivered in Q2 FY24 compared to 1,42,325 in Q2 FY23. In contrast, the export segment increased by 88%, with 989 units exported in the second quarter of FY24 compared to 526 units in the same quarter of FY23.

Mr. Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director, of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. said, “Passenger vehicle sales remained strong in Q2 FY24 driven by new launches and pre-festive offtakes. Tata Motors posted quarterly sales of 1,38,939 cars and SUVs in Q2 FY24, 2.7% below our highest-ever quarter, Q2 FY23. Our EV business continues its strong momentum and has posted growth of about 55% year-on-year.

He further added ''In Q2 FY24, we extended our innovative twin-cylinder CNG offering to Tiago, Tigor, and Punch, which have been received well by the market. This quarter also saw the launch of the new generation Nexon and Nexon.ev, which have received an overwhelming market response. We had proactively reduced supplies of the outgoing models this quarter to enable a smooth transition to the new generation models. Going forward, with deliveries commencing of our exciting new generation products, we expect stepped-up volumes in this festive season and beyond.“
