Tata Motors Registers Marginal Dip of 0.6% in August with 78,010 Unit Sales

Tata Motors has revealed its sales numbers for August. Recently, the automaker pulled covers from the facelifted version of the Tata Nexon in India. The compact SUV is scheduled to launch in the country on September 14.

Tata Motors released its August 2023 sales results. In comparison to 78,843 units sold in August of the previous year, it sold a total of 78,010 units in the last month (passenger + commercial), showing a minor year-over-year drop of 0.6%. During the past month, the total number of PVs sold was 45,933 units compared to 47,351 units sold during the same period last year. This indicates a 3% YoY decrease in sales. Additionally, the automaker sold 45,513 passenger vehicles in the domestic market in the previous month, which is a 3.5% decline from the 47,166 units sold in August 2022. Despite this fall, Tata Motors performed well in the EV market, reporting a noteworthy YoY growth of 54.9% in sales. As per the report, Tata Motors sold a total of 6,236 EVs. The manufacturer also reported a 127% increase in exports from 185 units in August of the previous year to 420 units in the previous month.

Tata Motors Sales August 2023: Commercial Vehicles

The firm delivered 32,077 units of commercial vehicles in the preceding month, a rise of 1.9% over the 31,492 vehicles sold at the same time in August 2022. Additionally, domestic commercial product sales increased by 4.9% YoY, with 30,748 vehicles shipped. 

Moving to the CV sales according to category, Tata Motors sold 9,000 Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) truck units in August 2023, indicating a significant YoY increase of 14.4%. The company also sold 5,207 Intermediate and Light Commercial Vehicles (ILMCV), which is 4.8% higher than the previous year. The passenger carriers category witnessed a YoY increase of 29.9% with 2,986 units sold. Also, despite a modest decline with a YoY loss of 4.4% in the SCV Cargo and Pickup segment, Tata Motors managed to sell 13,555 units overall.

Tata Motors' CV category saw a 39% fall in sales internationally, with 1,329 vehicles sold. In the domestic arena, the Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles (MH&ICV) performed well with 13,306 units sold in the last month, representing a YoY gain of 10.2%. Further, total MH&ICV sales (Domestic and international) for August 2023 were 13,816 units, a gain of 7.5%.

2023 Tata Nexon Breaks Cover in India

The redesigned Nexon has finally been unveiled by Tata Motors in India. The updated model gets a significantly reworked exterior and a completely redesigned interior. It boasts a split headlamp cluster with novel LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), a brand-new alloy wheel design, and more. Further, its spacious cabin consists of contrasting indigo-colored accents that decorate the dashboard design. The new Nexon's prices will be made public by Tata Motors on September 14.
