Shailesh Chandra, the Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd., has been appointed as the new President by the Executive Committee of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) for the 2024–25 term. For those unaware, SIAM is the apex body that represents the country's top automakers. With this development, Shailesh Chandra, formerly Vice President of SIAM, succeeds Vinod Aggarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd. At the meeting of the Executive Committee, the new office bearers were elected. While Shenu Agarwal, the MD and CEO of Ashok Leyland Ltd., has been named as Vice President for 2024–2025, Satyakam Arya, CEO & MD, of Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, is the new Treasurer of SIAM.

SIAM Convention 2024: PM Modi Urges Manufacturers to Focus on Sustainable Mobility
The 64th Annual Convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) focused on the "Sustainable Mobility Journey Towards Viksit Bharat," with renowned leaders and policymakers discussing the critical role of sustainable mobility in meeting the Viksit Bharat goals by 2047. In a special message, India's Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, emphasised the importance of the auto industry in driving the country's sustainable growth. He stressed that achieving this goal will necessitate rapid but consistent improvement, and that cleaner and greener mobility is a critical first step. He indicated in his remarks that implementing sustainable practices would be crucial to the country's development. He said, 'The road ahead demands that our progress is rapid while also being sustainable. Working on greener and cleaner mobility is a vital step in this direction.'
