Tata Motors reported its June sales figures after the market closed on Monday. The company's total domestic sales for June were 74,147 units, an 8 percent decrease from the previous month's sales of 80,383 vehicles. Total commercial vehicle sales fell 7 per cent to 31,980 units, compared to 34,414 units delivered in June last year. Moreover, last month, sales of electric vehicles (EVs) fell by a staggering 34 percent year-over-year (YoY), totalling 4,657 units. Talking about the April-June quarter, EV sales decreased by 14 percent to 16,579 units, while total passenger car sales declined by 1 percent to about 1.38 lakh units. The carmaker attributed nationwide heat waves and the recent general elections to the low sales figures.

Commenting on the latest sales performance, Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors Ltd. said, 'Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles domestic sales at 87,615 units in Q1 FY25 were ~7 per cent higher than Q1 FY24 sales. Additionally, sales in June 2024 were ~3 per cent higher compared to May 2024. Going forward, the forecast of a healthy monsoon, expectations of policy continuity and continuing thrust on infra related developmental projects by the Government are expected to improve the demand for commercial vehicles. The demand in staff, intercity, and stage carriage segments should also remain healthy despite the seasonal dip often seen in school transportation in Q2. We continue to remain focused on partnering our customers to success while vigilantly tracking relevant macro factors including geopolitical developments, interest rates, fuel prices, and inflation.'

Tata Motors Crosses 1.50 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone for EVs in India
In the Indian market, Tata Motors' EV division has sold more than 1.50 lakh units. This comes after the most recent round of Bharat NCAP crash test assessments gave two of its electric vehicles, the Nexon EV and the Punch EV, a perfect 5-star safety rating.
The company sold 73,800 electric vehicles (EVs) in FY2024 compared to 50,000 units in FY2023; this is a 48 per cent year-over-year (YoY) growth. By FY2026, Tata Motors intends to introduce four new EVs in India: the Curvv EV, Harrier EV, Sierra EV, and Avinya EV. While the latter two will be available by March 2026, the first two will debut by March 2025.
The brand's first SUV coupe, the Currv EV, will compete against the MG ZS EV and Hyundai's upcoming Creta EV. It will be built on the acti.ev dedicated electric car platform, which debuted with the Punch EV. Although the powertrain details remain under wraps, it is estimated to have a range of over 500 km.
