Tata Motors has announced that their fleet of commercial vehicles now comply with BSIV emission norms in India.
Tata Motors can continue its sales of commercial vehicles which themanufacturer was not able to after the Supreme Court of India enforced Bharat Stage 4 emission norms for all vehicles across the country from April 1, 2017.
Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles now comply with the latest emission norms in place in the country as the company now claims their engines have been modified to meet the regulations.
All commercial vehicles ranging from 16T trucks to 49T tractor trailers which feature a range of engine with 3.0-litre to 5.0-litre in capacity and produce 130hp to 400hp have been fitted with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems. The engines include – ISB5.9 BSIV EGR: 160 to 180hp, ISB5.9 BSIV SCR: 130 to 230hp, ISB6.7 BSIV SCR: 230 to 300hp, ISL8.9 BSIV SCR: 400hp.
Based on the Cummins B5.9 BSIII mechanical engine, BSIV compliant ISB5.9 electronic engines will be available in both SCR and EGR technologies. It also features new generation fuel system and electronic controls as well.
Benefits of Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems allow for better power delivery and fuel efficiency while it also offers cleaner exhaust emissions by allowing the engine to operate at more optimal combustion temperature. EGR technology is a low cost, simple solution while being easy to integrate as it helps to reduce NOx emissions from the engine.
The EGR equipped ISB5.9 BSIV EGR: 160 to 180hp engine will continue to power small-to-medium category of commercial vehicles. While the SCR technology equipped engines will be utilised to power its Medium and Heavy-Duty Commercial vehicles ranging from 130hp to 400hp.
