Suzuki and Toyota, two renowned Japanese automakers, have decided to expand their long-standing partnership to venture into the electric vehicle market. The first electric vehicle under this collaboration will be made by Suzuki for Toyota. Production is set to begin at Suzuki Motor Gujarat in India in the spring of 2025. The upcoming car will be a fully electric vehicle, offering a dynamic driving experience typical of battery electric vehicles (BEVs), a long-range, and a spacious interior. It will come equipped with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) system, which will improve its performance on uneven roads and make it appropriate for a variety of driving situations. Notably, Suzuki, Toyota, and Daihatsu Motor have jointly developed the electric vehicle platform for the EV.

Commenting on the collaboration, Toshihiro Suzuki, President of Suzuki, said, 'Suzuki will supply our first BEV to Toyota globally. I am grateful that the collaboration between the two companies has further deepened in this way. While continuing to be competitors, we will deepen our collaborations toward solving social issues, including the realization of a carbon-neutral society through a multi-pathway approach.'

Koji Sato, Toyota President, also commented 'By leveraging the BEV unit and platform that we jointly developed, we will take a new step in our collaboration in the field of electrified vehicles. This will allow us to deliver various choices that contribute to a carbon-neutral society to customers worldwide. We would like to learn from each other's strengths, compete, and further joint efforts based on a multi-pathway approach.'

The partnership between the companies began in 2016. It provided significant advantages to the brands over the years, with the launch of several lucrative products across the world, including Japan, India, the Middle East, Africa, and Europe. Now, based on this outstanding track record, the upcoming electric SUV is expected to have strong global recognition, increasing automakers' participation in the growing electric vehicle market.
