Skoda has officially commenced the assembly of the Kushaq and Slavia in Vietnam, marking a significant step in its global expansion strategy. The two models, originally manufactured in India, are being assembled in Vietnam using completely knocked-down (CKD) kits exported from Skoda’s Indian facilities. This initiative aligns with Skoda’s plan to strengthen its presence in Southeast Asia while leveraging India as a key production hub. The move underscores Skoda’s commitment to cost-effective manufacturing and localisation, ensuring competitive pricing in the Vietnamese market. With this expansion, the brand aims to tap into the growing demand for premium yet affordable vehicles in the region. The assembly operations will take place in partnership with Thanh Cong Motor Vietnam, Skoda’s local distributor.

Skoda's New Production Plant in Vietnam: Key Details

Full-scale production of the Skoda Kushaq SUV is now underway, with the Slavia sedan set to follow in the coming months. Both models are assembled from completely knocked-down (CKD) kits sourced from Skoda Auto’s logistics hub in Pune, India, ensuring a streamlined manufacturing process. The assembly facility, situated in Vietnam’s Quang Ninh province, features cutting-edge infrastructure. The facility’s proximity to one of Vietnam’s largest ports enhances logistical efficiency and supply chain reliability.

The plant incorporates advanced production technologies, including contactless 3D measurement, a high-precision four-layer paint application, and an anti-corrosion wax treatment for long-term durability. The large-scale assembly line is complemented by dedicated welding and paint shops, a quality control centre, and a precision measurement facility. Additionally, a two-kilometre-long test track replicates diverse Vietnamese road conditions for rigorous vehicle assessment.

The Czech automaker says it conducted extensive real-world trials on its locally assembled models to ensure top-tier quality. The Kushaq, for instance, covered over 330,000 kilometres in diverse terrains and underwent extreme climate testing in temperatures ranging from -10°C to 42°C with high humidity, verifying its durability and performance before full-scale production began.

Sharing his thoughts on the new plant, Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, said, 'Opening this new assembly line marks a milestone in our expansion into the rapidly growing Vietnamese market and strengthens our position in the ASEAN region. By leveraging synergies with our key Indian market, we are setting the stage for success not only for Skoda but also for our local partner, Thanh Cong Group. I look forward to putting the first Skoda vehicles from the Vietnamese plant in front of customers very soon.'
