Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited's (SAVWIPL) cutting-edge car and engine manufacturing plant in Chakan, near Pune, has reached a major milestone. Since 2009, the German auto company has produced nearly 15 lakh units at the facility, beginning with the Skoda Fabia. The plant has produced several models over the years, including the Volkswagen Vento and Polo, the Skoda Fabia and Rapid, and the new vehicles based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, such as the Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus and the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia.

Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, SAVWIPL, said, 'The significant output of 1.5 million vehicles at our Chakan Plant, coupled with the production milestone of four successful MQB models and the 10-year journey of our Engine Shop stand testament to our dedication to India’s automotive industry and SAVWIPL’s significant contribution to the nation’s talent and workforce.'

Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Production Capacity
Additionally, about 3.8 lakh engines have been built for the Volkswagen Group by the engine factory in Chakan. The 1.0-litre TSI engines heavily rely on parts made in India, which heavily contributed to ito SAVWIPL's commitment to domestic sourcing, not to mention the role it played in its recent accomplishment. While the 1.5-litre TSI engine is manufactured in India, some of its components are imported directly from abroad.
Skoda Auto Volkswagen India also commemorated the manufacturing of 3 lakh units of the popular INDIA 2.0 car range, which comprises the Skosa Slavia, Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun. These include vehicles made in Chakan, Pune, and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (previously Aurangabad). The former has an annual production capacity of 1.80 lakh units, while the latter produces 6 lakh units every year.
The present lineup of Volkswagen and Skoda vehicles has been recognised by the Global NCAP as the safest cars manufactured in India, given that they have earned a perfect five-star safety rating for both adult and child occupants. India acts as a worldwide centre of production for both carmakers, exporting over thirty per cent of the total output to foreign markets.
