Skoda has appointed a new Managing Director who will assume his new role from April 2018.
Skoda Auto India Private Limited has appointed Gurpratap Boparai as their new Managing Director. Boparai will assume his new role from April 2, 2018, and will report directly to Bernhard Maier, CEO of Skoda Auto.
At the age of 48, Boparai has a huge amount of experience in the Indian automotive industry. His most recent role was the CEO of Fiat India Automobile Ltd.
Skoda claims that the Indian market plays an important role in their growth strategy, and the Volkswagen Group is evaluating a global architecture for volume segments with the modular MQB A0 IN system. Skoda aims to launch this localised platform in the Indian market by 2020, by when more stringent crash and emission norms will bet set in place and will be enforced.
Skoda is currently offering four models in the Indian market. They include the Rapid, Octavia, Superb and the Kodiaq SUV. Skoda is expected to launch the Karoq SUV in the Indian market as well, which will be the replacement for the Yeti.
