Jaguar Land Rover India has announced its best-ever sales results for the first quarter of the financial year 2023-24. Between the period of April and June 2023, JLR India sold 1,048 units, which is more than twice the number of units it retailed during the corresponding period in 2022-23. This marks the best-ever first-quarter sales for the Indian arm of the British automobile manufacturer. In comparison to the first quarter of FY2023, the manufacturer registered 102 per cent sales growth in the first quarter of FY2024. The British luxury car brand owned by Tata Motors claims that its SUV portfolio led by the new Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport, and the Defender has played a significant role in the growth in the sales numbers in addition to the high demand for these models. These luxury SUVs made up about 78 per cent of its current order book, and they posted a year-on-year growth of 209 per cent, according to JLR India.

JLR further said that the present orders will cover more than 6 months of its sales. In the pre-owned vehicle segment, JLR India also witnessed high sales and registered an increase of 137 per cent in the first quarter of FY2024. JLR's rival Mercedes-Benz India witnessed its best-ever first-half sales performance. The Indian arm of the German luxury car manufacturer sold 8,528 units between January and June 2023, up from 7,537 units during the same period last year.
BMW Group India Sales Performance in H1 2023
In the first half of 2023, BMW Group India reported selling 5,867 automobiles (BMW and Mini), denoting a 5 per cent rise from 5,570 units sold during the same period in the previous year. Most of these numbers came from BMW, delivering 5,476 cars to the buyers and marking a 5.5 per cent increase, as opposed to January to June of the previous year. Sales of Minis rose by 3% to 391 units.
2023 Range Rover Velar Launched in India
In recent news, Jaguar Land Rover launched the 2023 Velar SUV in the Indian market at Rs 93 lakh, which is Rs 3.59 lakh more expensive than the outgoing model. Both prices are ex-showroom. Bookings for the vehicle are already underway, and delivery will commence in September 2023. The SUV receives a number of aesthetic upgrades over the outgoing model, as well as a completely redesigned interior packed with tech-based amenities. It is available only in the fully loaded HSE trim. In terms of market competition, the Range Rover Velar facelift locks horns with the Jaguar F-Pace, the Porsche Macan, and more.

Underneath the bonnet, the facelifted version gets two engine options: a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.0-litre diesel unit with a mild-hybrid system. The petrol unit cranks out 247bhp and 365Nm, while the diesel mill generates 201bhp and 430Nm. For transmission, both motors use an 8-speed automatic gearbox. JLR claims that it has a top speed of 217km/h.
