Green buses are set to ply on Mumbai roads as early as in next six months, with Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development (MMRDA) floating tenders for the same.

The buses - which be all electric or hybrid - will connect Bandra-Kurla Complex to stations like Sion, Kurla, Bandra and Santacruz. A hybrid bus will cost around between Rs 1.75-2 crore while the related parties will have to shell out a bigger amount for an all electric bus.

"We expect the first bus to arrive in six months and the remaining can come over a period of 12 to 18 months,’’ a senior MMRDA official was quoted.

The move is expected to reduce the waiting time for passengers travelling on this route.
