MG Hector SUV Range to Get a Price Hike of up to Rs 40,000 from November 1 in India

After reducing the costs of the MG Hector and the MG Hector Plus by up to Rs 1.37 lakh last month, the British automaker is gearing up to implement a price hike for both models. With this, the SUVs will become dearer by up to Rs 40,000. The updated prices will take effect from November 1st onwards.

MG Motor is all set to increase the prices of the most popular model in its Indian portfolio, the Hector SUV. As per industry reports, this festive season, the model will see a price hike of up to Rs 40,000. It is important to note the new price will take effect from November 1st onwards. In addition to the Hector, the Indian division of the British automaker will raise the cost of the Hector Plus SUV by Rs 40,000 as well. Following this, the model will retail for a starting price of Rs 17.80 lakh. However, for October, the price range for the Hector varies between Rs 14.73 lakh and Rs 21.73 lakh. The cost of the Hector Plus, on the other hand, starts at Rs 17.50 lakh and goes up to Rs 22.43 lakh. All mentioned figures are ex-showroom. You might recall that the carmaker had reduced the price of the Hector and the Hector Plus by up to Rs 1.37 lakh last month to commemorate the firm's 100th anniversary. MG Hector, Hector Plus Price Hike

Speaking of the extent of the hike, the petrol versions of the Hector SUV will witness a price increase that might reach up to Rs 35,000, while the diesel models could cost up to Rs 40,000 more. Furthermore, the dual-tone versions of the SUV will continue to cost Rs 20,000 more than the standard model, with the base price starting at Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom). 

Now coming to the Hector Plus variants, the cost of the diesel versions would increase by Rs 40,000, whereas the petrol trims will cost an additional Rs 35,000. Meanwhile, similar to Hector's case, the dual-tone versions of the Hector Plus will continue to cost Rs 20,000 more than their respective variations. It should also be mentioned that the prices of some trims would be reduced by up to Rs 35,000.

MG Hector, Hector Plus: Powertrain Details

Under the hood, the Hector has both petrol and diesel engines. The 2.0-litre diesel engine produces 350Nm of peak torque and 168bhp of maximum power, whereas the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine puts out 250Nm of maximum torque and 141bhp of peak power. A six-speed transmission is standard, with a CVT transmission available only with turbo-petrol engines.

A 1.5-litre petrol engine powers the Hector Plus SUV. It can be coupled to either a CVT automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. This unit can produce up to 250Nm of peak torque and 143bhp of maximum power. Additionally, the 2.0-litre, 170bhp, 350Nm diesel engine that powers the Compass, the Safari, and the Harrier is still present. MG still only offers one 6-speed manual transmission for the Hector diesel.

The SUVs come equipped with a host of features. These include a wireless phone charger, a motorised tailgate, multi-coloured ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, a 7-inch fully-digital driver's display, and a 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The safety of the occupants is enhanced by ABS with EBD, up to six airbags, and electronic stability control (ESC). Several functions like forward collision warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and auto emergency braking are a part of the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) included in both models.

MG Hector, Hector Plus: Competition Check

When it comes to market rivals, the Hector goes head-to-head with the likes of the Tata Harrier, the Mahindra XUV700 (5-seater version), the Kia Seltos (top-spec), Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and the Hyundai Creta. Popular models such as the Tata Safari, the Mahindra XUV700 (7-seater version), the Toyota Innova Hycross, and the Hyundai Alcazar serve as direct competitors of the Hector Plus SUV in India.
