The Performance Materials division of Merck, which comprises the business units Liquid Crystals and Pigments & Cosmetics, added an innovative family of effect pigments to its portfolio. Christened Meoxal, this effect pigment is highly suitable for a multitude of high performance applications, especially for automotive and plastic coatings.

Merck’s innovations have been global trend setters and the fact that they were working on liquid crystals, as far back as the 1900’s, shows the thirst for innovation of the German company.

The first pigment under the new brand name, Meoxal, is Wahiba Orange; named after the famous Wahiba Sands in Oman. Inspired by this desert, the pigment adds saturated red, orange and brown tones to the styling spectrum.

According to Merck, Meoxal Wahiba Orange is highly suitable for innumerable high performance applications – especially for automotive and plastic coatings as well as for other demanding exterior applications. Using the new pigment in waterborne coating systems is particularly straightforward because no additional passivation is needed.

Even Siddhartha Sengupta, Regional Sales Director Asia (Decoratives) said, “We are setting a milestone in pigment technology with Meoxal. We have brought together the OEM’s to experience what this pigment is all about and this also gives us an opportunity to interact with the Automotive OEM’s and understand what they are looking for. The Wahiba Orange is the first in this range that we are bringing to India and we are confident that it will be well received by the auto and plastic coatings industry.”
