Mercedes-Benz Crosses 2 Lakh Unit Production Milestone in India
Mercedes-Benz India hits 200,000 locally made cars with the EQS SUV, showing fast growth and strong demand for luxury and electric vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz India has reached a big milestone by making its 200,000th car locally. The car is the all-electric EQS SUV, built at the company’s Chakan plant near Pune. Mercedes-Benz started its India journey in 1995 with the W124 E-Class. This latest step shows the brand’s focus on electric vehicles and its long-term plans for the Indian market. It took Mercedes-Benz nearly 20 years to make its first 50,000 cars in India. The next 50,000 came in just nine years. The biggest leap came recently — the last 50,000 cars were made in just two years. This fast growth shows how demand for luxury cars in India is rising and how the company has scaled up its production quickly.

The Chakan plant has played a big role in Mercedes-Benz’s success. In 2015, it became the first factory outside Germany to build the Maybach S500. Over the years, more luxury models have been added to the local production line. This has helped the brand offer more cars that meet the needs of Indian luxury buyers.
Mercedes-Benz is growing its electric vehicle range in India by locally making models like the EQS SUV. This step supports India’s shift to electric cars and shows the brand’s strong focus on clean mobility. As more people in India choose premium and electric cars, Mercedes-Benz is ready to lead the way in the luxury EV segment.
