According to the recent data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), four cars from the Maruti Suzuki stable are the top four best selling cars of FY15.

It seems that the dominance Maruti Suzuki enjoys in the Indian market is not going anywhere, not anytime soon. According to the data released by SIAM, Maruti Suzuki Alto has topped the charts for the tenth year in succession by selling 2,64,492 units in 2014-15 where the carmaker sold 2,58,281 Altos in 2013-14. The second spot was grabbed by (no prizes for guessing) the Swift with a sales figure of 2,01,338 units in FY15 against 1,98,571 units sold in the previous fiscal. The new figure is 1.4% more than the previous one. Third car in the list of top selling cars in financial year 2015 is the elongated Swift – Dzire – which registered a sales figure of 1,92,010 units in 2014-15 which is 2.4% up from last year where it witnessed a figure of 1,87,673 units. WagonR witnessed a jump of 3.12% by selling 1,61,250 units in FY15 where it found 1,56,369 buyers in the previous financial year.

The next three slots were taken by Hyundai Motors whose Grand i10 moved to fifth spot from previous year’s seventh with a growth of 36.13%. Where Hyundai sold 72,789 Grand i10s in the previous financial year, it sold 99,088 units this time. The sixth spot was taken by Hyundai Eon with 78,334 units sold and was closely followed by the recently launched Elite i20 with a sales figure of 77,747 units.

Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Honda Amaze ranked 8th, 9th and 10th respectively with sales figures of 77,343 units, 68,143 units and 66,703 units.

What is more interesting is the fact that these cars combine to form a sales figure of 12,60,149 out of 18,76,017 cars sold in India in 2014-15. This means that these cars form a little over 67% of India’s total sales figure. Does it mean tough times ahead for the European counterparts? Looks like it.
