The largest automaker in India, Maruti Suzuki, plans to increase its production capacity by constructing a new plant with one million-unit capacity. Maruti Suzuki is making the move in an effort to meet the rising demand for its cars and maintain its position as a major player in the Indian auto industry. The plan to install the extra capacity has been given board approval by Maruti Suzuki, but the firm has not yet decided how to phase it out. According to RC Bhargava, the company's chairman, the additional capacity would call for a completely new plant, and Maruti Suzuki is currently looking into locations and for land to erect the facility. It is anticipated that a decision will be made soon regarding the new plant's location.

Maruti Suzuki: Future Expansion Plans

Maruti Suzuki made this decision as it prepares to introduce its first electric vehicle (EV) in the 2025 fiscal year. Despite the launch being years away, the auto manufacturer has already experienced a massive consumer response, with a booking backlog of more than 4 lakh units. This demonstrates the rising demand for electric cars in India as well as Maruti Suzuki's potential to have a big impact on the EV market. Concerns exist regarding the effects of eliminating EV subsidies, though. Bhargava noted that EV sales in China significantly decreased after subsidies were eliminated, and he cautioned that Indian EV players might experience a decline in volume if similar subsidies were eliminated there as well. The expansion plans of Maruti Suzuki may be complicated by this, but the company is still upbeat about the prospects of the Indian EV market.

Maruti Suzuki's decision to add a one million-unit capacity is a critical step in securing its status as a significant player in the Indian auto industry. The company is making the move in an effort to keep up with the rising demand for its vehicles as it gets ready to introduce its first EV. While there are reservations regarding the effects of eliminating subsidies for EVs, Maruti Suzuki is still in a strong position to take advantage of the growth of the EV market in India.
