Maruti Suzuki Surpasses 10 Lakh Automatic Car Sales Milestone in India

With the sale of over 10 lakh automatic cars in India, Maruti Suzuki recently achieved a great feat. The leading auto manufacturer presently offers 4 automatic transmission options across 16 models. These include AGS, 4-speed AT, Advanced 6-speed AT with steering-mounted paddle shifters, and e-CVT.

Maruti Suzuki recently crossed a significant milestone of selling 10 lakh automatic vehicles in India. In order to serve a diverse customer base, the leading auto manufacturer presently offers four automatic transmission options across 16 models. These include the Auto Gear Shift (AGS), 4-speed Automatic Transmission (AT), Advanced 6-speed Automatic Transmission (AT) with steering-mounted paddle shifters, and Electronic-Continuous Variable Transmission (e-CVT). The carmaker introduced the AGS tech back in 2014 which was well-received by potential buyers. At present, AGS technology can be found in 65 per cent of the automatic vehicles sold by the company. While the Hybrid e-CVT transmission makes up roughly 8 per cent of the maker's automatic sales, the percentage of automatic transmission (AT) models amounts to 27 per cent of cumulative automatic sales.

Maruti Suzuki Models with Automatic Transmission Options

The Delhi & NCR, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, and Kerela are the top contributing regions for Maruti Suzuki's automatic car sales. The Alto K-10, the S-Presso, the Celerio, the WagonR, the Ignis, the Swift, the Dzire, the Baleno, and the Fronx all come with a 5-speed AGS gearbox as an option. The Jimny and the Ciaz also come with a 4-speed automatic transmission option. The Fronx, the Brezza, the Ertiga, the XL6, and the Grand Vitara constitute the vehicles that may be had with the Advanced 6-speed Automatic transmission with Paddle Shifters. Meanwhile, the Grand Vitara and the Invicto Intelligent Electric Hybrid models are the only ones that provide the e-CVT technology.

“Further examining the behaviour of consumers, it is worth noting that NEXA customers tend to prefer high-end automatic variants. Arena customers meanwhile prefer mid-variants when making a purchase decision. As things stand today, NEXA accounts for about 58 per cent of automatic car sales at MSIL, while Arena contributes about 42 per cent,” he added.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Continues to Dominate the Sales 

With six of its models placing among the top 10 best-selling cars for September 2023, Maruti Suzuki continued to hold the leading spot as India's largest automaker. With 18,417 units sold last month, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno retained its dominant position. The hatchback stood at the top of the list which included a number of other well-known models, including the Tata Nexon and the Hyundai Creta, among others. The price range of the Baleno prices starts at Rs 6.61 lakh and tops at Rs 9.88 lakh. Prices are ex-showroom. The car is offered in four trim levels: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha.
